**RANT** Why do C5 owners do the craziest mods
With Barrett Jackson being in town (Scottsdale, AZ) I went to the local pavilions cars show to check out some cars. This past weekend over 500 cars show up to a McDonalds Parking lot for an all day event.
I have seen these mods both at the show, and here on C/F
I'm sure I am going to offend some people on here, but here goes.
1. Badges- If your car is not a Z06, dont put z06 badges on it
2. Hydrocarbon- If you cant get the real stuff why bother
3. stock C6 rims on a C5.
4. ipod cables coming out of your head unit.
5. Tires sticking out of the fenderwells due to improper backspacing on the rim
6. Yellow and Red dont match unless you work for McDonalds
7. Z06 ducts on coupe (with stock brakes)
8. Mismatching interior colors
9. Murals painted on your car
10. Stick on wing.
I'm sure that there is more.. but my head is starting to hurt.

I agree with you on all items. I try to keep all my mods clean and simple. Many small subtle mods that add up to a whole package look. Not one single thing that stands out and screams "aftermarket". I think GM got the design right the first time. I am just smoothing out the rough spots...
That's what I prefer for my mods.... not everyone is like that though.
Its there car and I guess they can do what "they" like to it.
When they go to sell it they will have to find someone that likes there taste in mods...

Well I guess they do it because it is their car and that is what they like.
I happen to have C6 Z06 chrome repro wheels on my C5 coupe. I am thinking about adding the Z06 brake ducts also, and as far as I know the brakes on a coupe and the ones on a Z06 are the same, with the exception of the calipers are red on the Z06. So there is one you missed and that is all they coupes and roadsters running around with red calipers. I also have a (as you put it) a stick on spoiler not a wing, but the SPL low profile spoiler. I also have one piece of Hydro Carbon and that is the radiator shroud. That is because I cannot find one in CF. There are the 2 piece covers, but I did not want that. All the other engine dress up is CF.
Every one of us that drive C5's are not purest. Let’s get real here, these cars are not collectable at this time and I am not sure they will ever be except for maybe the FRC's and the Pace cars and again that is only a maybe.

BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER
Fortunately for all of us we all do not have the same taste in beauty and we seek individuality. This is why kids wear baggy jeans, the Beatles had long hair, Elvis danced, ugly women marry, and anyone in the U.S. ever bought a VW bug.

As I mentioned on the "Etiquette" thread, at the end of the day, the "It's your car, so do what you want" response always wins. However, since you post on a public forum and at times ask for opinions, you will get a variety of comments, both positive and negative.
Obviously, the owners of these cars enjoy modding there cars. Just like any other type of compulsive behavior, some owners simply cannot stop and mod just because the part/component can be modded.
I agree with most of your list, however I have also seen some very nice hydrocarbon interior pieces. Afterall, the C6 ZR1 has OEM hydrocarbon trim (as well as the other models).
I think the C5 is susceptable to more extreme modification because we are working with a car design that is now 15 years old. Technology specifically in lighting, acoustics and other electronics has signficantly advanced over the past 15 years and mods that focus on these areas are the result of trying to keep their cars current.
I personally prefer the clean, OEM look like Toque. I want all my mods to look factory or improve on GM's original design. Some owners, however want to show a little more creativity and although I've seen a few "train wrecks" at various shows, it's amazing how many times these exotic mods pull in the awards.

I guess that I'll be the one to break it to you. ZO6 brakes and stock C5 brakes are the same! So take one thing off of your list!

This rant was not out of the blue. This was from my experience over from Saturday and seeing people post of this forum recently. Most of the time the members of this forum stroke the offending person saying that their mod is tasteful or their effort looks great. When really it was done half a$$ed by anyone who has an eye for detail.
I do not 'walk on water' this is just an observation. I have an extremely modified car, and I am some people would say that my money was 'wasted', but this is an open forum so if you care to critique my car feel free.

I agree with you though... Its AMAZING how the "exotic mods" (as u put it) win the shows. I could car a less because its not my style. Maybe they do it just to draw the attention so they can win a $5 trophy, and 10 seconds of glory ?
