Is it just me or.......
Does it seem like the paint on C5's are rather thin than others?
I ask because I just finished washing my black C5 (I know) and that thing is covered out the wazoo with rock chips and other misc things like small door dings and whatnot. There are a couple of spots of known door dings that went past the paint.
I know some of you will say that it is what happens with a black car that shows EVERY blemish and whatnot, but I can't believe that. My first car was a black 93 Z28 (that I still have) and I know that thing took it's fair share of battle damage over the years, but nothing like that vette. The front bumper looks like I offroad the car and run over small trees. (It's not that bad, I am stretching the truth a little) There are just spots all over the car and it makes me want to get it repainted and throw it in storage for the next 10 years.
Anyone else see things like this on their cars?

Yes it is thin in some spots for sure. The clear coat is very hard. I believe they changed clear coats in 2003 or so (mine is a 2004) and use the same clear coat as Mercedes.
I was doing some touch up paint in the summer (mine is black & a DD), then coming back with 2500 grit wet sanding and hit a spot on the hood and went right through the paint.
It disgusted me to the point that I stopped the detail process probably until this spring.

don't feel bad. the Ferrari F40 has paint so thin, you can see the carbon fiber weave through it. they didn't want to weigh it down with unnecessary coats.

Melting Slicks
I've noticed that the "metallic" on my Navy Blue Metallic 2001 Coupe isn't as "metallic" as it used to be. Must be from all the Zaino I put on it in the last 10 years.

The C5 will get a lot of rock chips on the front end because it sits so low compared to other cars. But yes, it does seem like the paint is a bit thin in places.

Mine is an 04.
On a side note, if you get a panel repainted, do you think it affects anything? If the C5 only has say 2 coats of paint whereas a body shop sprays 5 or 6, I wonder if that would affect the blending, panel alignment or anything else? I'd be curious now to see a weight difference from a before and after a painting on the weight. Can't imagine it would be too different but still....
