i bought a new z06, have only 1K. on unit. i tryed to open her up,and at about 6000 rpm's it starts to break up miss, and shake , shakes the whole car . come off the 6k and it cleans right out, it does this at 1-2-3 gears , but going to fast to see if fourth would be the same , please anyone, i will not do this again unit the shop looks at it, i would just like some input.

This is a joke, right?
You're probably running into the rev limiter - a device that prevents pistons from blowing through your hood.

unless he's reading the tach wrong, you shouldn't be hitting the rev limiter at 6000 in an LS6 that redlines at 6500

This has happened to me, it was a very lose spark plug wire. As soon as I touched the wire it fell of the plug. I don't think your hitting the rev limitor at 6,000rpm, you should hit it at 6,500rpm on a Z06. :yesnod:

Re: high end trouble with new zo6 (Zoomin)
yes i understand this device, but are they all set at 6k, ? should i free rev to find just where this is set on this unit , i guess i thought it would be closer to 6500 or 7k but , thank you for your time , these are truly wonderful machines to drive, with only 1k on the car , saftey first, thanks zoomin :)

Sounds like an ignition problem. Also keep in mind that the rev limiter comes up really quick on these cars, so the tach might look like it is at 6000 but it lags a little.

Having worked for Nate at Xtreme for a few years, We have dynoed a few vettes and found out something.....The tach's can be off quite a bit!!! I don't think that 500 rpm is that far out of the question. You can go to GM and have them hook up the TECH-1 tech tool and see EXACTLY what RPM your engine is showing. Also, it doesn't help much but try to see what you can on the HUD tach too. Good Luck!! My Rev limmiter hits right where it should on my Z!!

The 1st time I hit the rev limiter...I thought I broke the car. Scared the poopie out of me. But we both recovered and the car ran better.

As others have said, maybe you're hitting the rev limiter (6600, I think) ... but one other possibility no one's mentioned yet ... You've got traction control turned off, right? Under hard acceleration this can feel like an engine stumble.

Re: high end trouble with new zo6 (97silverbullet)
I would not free rev it. Free rev to 6,000 RPM and running gears to 6,000 RPM are 2 totally different things. 6,000 RPM with a load on the engine- good, 6,000 RPM free rev- bad. :chevy
It doesn't make any difference. Revving the engine without load to find the rev limiter is no more "good" or "bad" that revving to the limiter under load.
