Was the Corvette your dream car?

The vette has been my dream car for as long as I can remember. Bought a 63 roadster in 68 and had it less than 2 years. One ticket and the insurance went up too high for me to be able to keep the vette. Then my Uncle Sam told me to report for duty in the US Army for a couple years.
Then marriage, family, life all came into play. Then at 59 years of age I decided it was time for another vette.
Next vette was a 99 vert, bought in 2009 from a forum member which I still have.
When I had the 63, Bad Moon Riseing and Proud Mary were new CCR tunes.
I was driving my 99 and listening to one of my favorite CDs of CCR and it dawned on me I was listening to the same music in my vette that I had listened to in my first vette.
The newest vette I had driven before my 99 was a highly modded 69 back in the day. I got to drive and work several vettes from the mid to late
60's at a vette mechanic's shop.
To me vettes are the coolest of all cars.

Growing up in the late 90’s my dream car was always the Viper. I would read all the Road & Track articles where they would compare the C5 to the Viper and had great respect for both cars. Riding around town, I remember how it was so easy to spot a Corvette and how striking they were. But I never could have imagined owning one.
Come Spring 2010, I was about to graduate college this Spring, and was lucky enough to have a job right of out college. I was driving a little front-wheel-drive car at the time, and I knew I had to get into a 2-door, rear wheel drive car. I was looking pretty intently at the Nissan 350Z, E46 BMW M3, and Mustangs. The thought of being able to own a Corvette didn’t even enter my mind until my neighbor, who happens to be a Manager at a local Ford dealership, brought home a 2002 Coupe. Seeing one in the flesh, brought back the memories of all those articles I read as a kid and I was in love. It was not in the best shape (needed tires, brakes, and the finish on the wheels were bad), so he would be giving me a GREAT deal on the car to put it in my price range. He lent me the car for the weekend, to make sure I could “deal” with living with a Vette as my only mode of transportation. I signed the papers the following Monday.
I feel extremely lucky to be 23, right out of college, with a job and a Corvette. I personally believe the Corvette is a special car, that I meant to be shared. To many people, it IS a dream car, so I always give people rides in the car, and even let my friends drive it around when they get a chance.
Cheers

I don't know if I have a dream car, but I do like anything that is well designed, be it esthetics or mechanics. I like muscle cars, exotics, sports cars, or just about anything that exudes a sense of power.
When I was a teenager I wanted badly to have a 68 or 70 Chevelle, which I guess would have been my dream car. But there were many other beauties out there that would catch my eye that I could not limit myself to just one
My first car ended up being a 68 Cutlass ‘S’ that my brother had found me for $200. When I saw that broke down beast coming down the road behind a tow truck I was just in love!!!! There were no dents and only minimal rust around the quarters. The interior was almost perfect with only the front seat bottom being torn, everything else was perfect!!!
I no longer have the Cutlass, but will always want one. I guess because of the fond memories of the car I will eventually get another and have it painted the same Maaco Tangier Orange color
Second to the Cutlass, I did own a 70 Corvette for a while that I never got to drive. It had sat for a couple decades and would need restoring. The body was perfect, but it needed paint. The car was a 300hp/350cid auto car with 3” fender flares and chrome side pipes. Now, I may never get a 68 or 70 Vette, but I will always dream about owning one.

The C5 was definitely my first dream car. My friends used to laugh at me, everytime we would be going somewhere and a Corvette would pass, I would squeal like a school girl. However, it is not my only dream. I can also add TVR Tuscan, R34 Skyline GTR, 67 L88 Hardtop Corvette, 1970 Chevelle SS 454, Pagani Zonda, McLaren F1, Ferrari 288 GTO and so on and so on.

Ferrari 288 GTO
Pagain Zonda
McLaren F1
67 L88 Vette
You just need to make sure the 70 Chevelle is an LS6 454, and not the LS5 454 . There is a difference.

My first Vette was at age 17, a 64 ragtop, a bit ratty but it was a Vette. That was followed by a 69 427/435 vert, and then a 74 coupe. Then no Corvettes for a long time until 5 years ago and an 04 Z. This past year I started tracking my Z and have become hooked on HPDEs. So in retrospect, I suppose the Corvette was and has been my dreamcar. Although if $ weren't an issue, I would have a fleet of some pretty cool rides not necessarily all corvettes.

Nope, never been a corvette guy. Always thought it was a "look at me" car. Got tired of the over weight pony cars with their truck style handling. I wanted a true sports car with a little bit of power, what else you gonna buy?

The Corvette was my best friends dream car. He died next to me in Iraq. I bought it so he could live his dream through me. I also traded boots with him so he could keep fighting with the rest of us and so I could hold on to a physical memory of him.

dream car
I remember Sunday mornings at the grocery store when i was like 10 or 11...I would sit outside in the car w/my father and every morning a gentleman would drive his '81 red vette to get a cup of coffee and the paper. From that point on always wanted a red '81...the mako styling was so cool to me. A few years later my parents bought an '81 claret colored one. I inherited it after college, got it painted, exhaust, interior and sold it to buy a lexus. Years later sold it to buy my current c5 '99. Is it my dreamcar?? probably but i know its a dream to drive.

In 1978 I bought a new Limited Edition Pace Car and kept it for 28 years. I kept it stock until in 1986 a Buick Grand National blew me into the weeds. Yes, I later bought one of those. Anyway, at first I went with double hump heads, intake, Holley. Two years later I put in a four bolt main, bored .30 over, Dart heads, forged pistons, low compression, etc. It then ran 13.2 with a new 3.55 rear. Original unbuilt trans. A rebuild of my 750 double pumper by a pro got it down to 12.6. Two more years later I put a 125hp shot of nitrous and it ran 11.4. I sold it in 2006 for some stupid reason. After a 2005 Magnum hemi, 2007 Pontiac GTP and then Mercedes SLK 32 AMG. But last month got a 2004 Z06 MS. Once a vette, always a vette, I suppose.

Always wanted a Vette since an early age....have been fortunate to have aquired several along the way. When the Viper came out though...that was a car I really thought about...but not enough to sacrifice owning a vette. Patience and watching the market finally allowed me to park one in the garage beside the vette.

No,when it was time to prchase a car i was going back and forth between a new mustang and a C5. The c5 was the best bang for the buck as far as performance and styling go. The Mustang only came with 300hp at the time plus its heavy. So i bought the Vette and its been my favorite car so far. I think my dream car will amways be the Viper GTS! That dream is on hold until i purchase another home

Yes. But started with my C4's.
Now this C5 is certainly beginning to try my patience. Let's see leaking fuel tanks (GM/Chevy/NHTSA refuse to deal with it), column lock issues, corroded spindle nut interfaces, failing ABS and BCMs, oh yes and the infamous failing oil pressure senders. For a $50K automobile you can certainly tell it's nothing more then a Chevrolet. (Perhaps over priced considering so many parts are either from or used on other GM vehicles.)
Chevrolet Corvette, perhaps the best car China, Japan, Mexico and Canada have ever designed and built. (PS: assembled in the USA)
(I rag on it but still luv it.)
