Why 17 inch wheels in front and 18's rear
I am a new vette owner, and have done numerous searches to find out why our C5's have different size front and back wheels from the factory. I can understand the need for a wider back tire, but why not 18's all around?

Lots of C5's with 18 all around. You may want to keep the overall tire diameter of the rears at least 1/2" greater than the fronts to avoid AH/TC issues. Some get away with less but most do not.. If your a gambling person or don't mind turning off AH/TC every time you start the car go for same size on all 4.

17/18 yeah really, why indeed
I admit the 17/18 combo seems kinda lame compared to the 18/19 combo of the Chrysler Crossfire V6 turd, but I will definately be going bigger when I get new wheels.
Also I hate the look of my wagon wheels, even the C4 ZR1 later models had better looking wheels.
I'm going to go to 18/19 C6Z next year.
I suppose it all came down to what looked "cool" in design phase, be glad the C5 didn't have any lame minitruck type body mods of the 90's.
17/18----still better than 17 all around

Just recognize you need a smaller tire in the front of the car due to the traction control. if you put the same size tires all around the car will throw a fit.
