Default Winter Tires? What are you running?

What kind of winter/snow tires are people running?

I put Conti ExtremeContact DWS on my car last year and it did well with the snow it saw. Didn't drive it in more than about 2-1/2 to 3" of the white stuff though. Considering true winter tires for this year.

Of course, the Eagle M+S is pretty much the ultimate winter tire for C5s, but they're getting hard to come by. Tire Rack doesn't seem to show any matching winter tire sets in C5 sizes (nothing available in the 275/40R18).

So what's your winter tire setup?

Michelin PS AS ZP+

I won't drive if snow is on the ground or in the forecast. I did get caught coming home in the snow one night and could not get up one of the first hills by my house. Luckily I was able to find another route that had a gentler slope-up and made it up the driveway too.

I've been thoroughly impressed with the snow performance of the DWS. They've been much better than I had expected. But I'm thinking I might just stick with the C5 as my only vehicle this winter, in which case proper winter tires would be nice.

Winter tires? For a vette? Not even us Canadians are that crazy.

Seriously though, you will probably have to go with a slightly different size (narrower). I don't think they make them in OEM sizes.

A full cold weather/winter package was developed for the C5. It's a great car in the snow with the proper tires. And it's not like it snows THAT much, that often to the point where things would ever be impassable. 3" is nothing with the all season tires on it. Snowfalls greater than that are relatively infrequent.

I use blizzaks on my e63 Benz. It has the same tire size as oem c5's do. But they do cost a lot. Paid 1200 or so for four tires.

I do think that a proper set of tires will go a long way on a c5. I cant drive my c5 bc it's heavily modded, but any regular c5 will do just fine. Just need to be smart about how you drive.

I've seen the pages on one of the big Corvette books where GM had at least 3 of the test cars, wrapped in those stealth bodywraps, out somewhere in the winter with snow all over the roads. Someone can hopefully post the picture up.

I use my extreme performance summer tires all year even in freezing temps. The vette doesn't go anywhere if the white stuff is on the ground.

Looks like that's the route I'm going to end up going. Just accepted an offer on one of my other vehicles, so we're down to an Avalanche and my C5 to get us thru the winter.

Well, maybe you should just buy cable chains...........

But if it was me I'd find something else to get around in.
