Default cylider head leaked - scattered motor (pics)

Has any one seen or experienced any thing like this

Stock motor hydro locked and threw a rod out the block, after many dollars and four months waiting for my new forged motor I finally get to drive again.

Within the first 200 miles of breaking in my new motor I get a large puff of white smoke - find out coolant is in the same cylinder-when we removed the Intake and pressured up on the coolant reservoir a pin hole leak is found in the intake port of the head.
How does this Happen?

Yes, these were CNC ported 5.3L heads- with less than 4000 miles on them

That sucks beyond words, my condolences. I too was a victim of over porting but I got lucky and only had to get new heads.

My question basically is this a chance you take when you buy commercially CNC ported heads, these heads have a pretty good reputation, or is it just luck of the draw. Do I need to worry about the other set if I just replace the damaged ones?

Talk about your bad luck. Time to get rid of those heads and find some that don't have a hole in them.

To be safe(after an experience like that),,I'd go with good after market head like RHS,AFR,Brodex etc.!! They are many to choose from,,and have a little more beef to play around with later if that's the way you want to go!! Better safe than sorry!! That was a really sad/scary looking set of pictures!!Good luck with the fix!!

If you didnt want to totally abandon the heads, you could always send them to be repaired, you probably want to check with one of the local engine builders and see who does good work around you.
