Default Another "I hit a dog" thread

I was on my way to work a little while ago and a huge dog was standing in the street. I either had to hit him, go in the ditch, or hit a car in the other lane. I hit the dog. He looked up right before I hit him, it was pretty messed up. I also rolled over him, so I don't think he made it.

I went back to see if he was laying around but couldn't see anything because of other car's headlights and because it's still dark out.

The front bumper is completely ****ed and who knows whats going on UNDER the car.

Now I've got to try to find the dog, take a picture of it, and then find its owner to cover repair costs-but first I'm making sure to file a police report.

I've had my Z06 for a whopping 2.5 weeks now, and this is the second accident I have been involved in ( about a week ago a truck driver hit me).

I think I may have bought a cursed car.

Good luck with the repairs and I hope not to much damage underneath.

Sorry man I feel for the dog as well. Just because a dog got out in the street does not mean he has bad owners. Maybe a kid did not close the door on the way to school or the yard guy left the fence unlached on his way out, could be anything. I'm sure the dog would have rather been in the house sleeping in the a/c rather then scared in the streets.

Tough break hitting the dog - too bad there was no other option. Best of luck with the car repairs.

I found the dog lying in a ditch a couple hours after the accident. I was on my way to work (again) and finally noticed it, after trying to find it a few more times.

I pulled over and took it's collar off and walked around the area knocking on a few doors trying to find the owner. Only one person answered the door and she didn't know who's dog it was. I had to get to work so I didn't knock anymore after that. I'm going to try again when I get off in a few hours.

I'll post up pics when I get home.

Oh, btw, are these bumpers still being made by companies, or am I going to have to get one from a junkyard or aftermarket supplier?

If it has a rabies tag you should be able to track the owner through the issuing Vet. Or better have the police do it.

That's what I was hoping, but the collar didn't have any tags on it.

Sucks about the dog, if this was not at highway speeds I would have slammed on the brakes and headed for the ditch. A car can be fixed, but a dogs life cannot. Some do not value a dogs life as much as fixing a car, but I do. Good luck on your repairs

Could be cursed...lol All jokes aside at least you weren't hurt in either accidents. Could have been a lot worse.

Coming back from picking my car up in Atlanta about 3:30am on I-24 NW of Chattanooga some small furry creature (raccoon or smaller) ran out in front of me nicking the right side bumper. Pulled over about 6:30am for breakfast and noticed about a .50 cent sized piece sized of meat and fur hanging off the rear brake duct vent along with some strings of meat plastered to the door.

I do not think the dog's owner has to pay for it. If your locale has dog leach laws then he could be cited. That is why you have comprehensive insurance coverage. Be sure and tell your agent that the dog HIT you, not that you hit the dog. Your comprehensive should cover it without a deductable, depending on your State.

My insurance deductible was only $100 for comprehensive with no penalty to my premiums.

Sorry to hear about your stroke of bad luck.

I am the one that hit a dog on Friday morning and started the other thread.

Atleast your air bags didn't deploy like mine did. That was about $2500 of my $4800 worth of damage.

The important part is you weren't hurt. Too bad for the dog.
