The question always leads to BS statements from others.
Them: How fast is your Vette
You: Well, the factory speeds are 0-60, sub 5 sec, and top speed of 175.
Them: My cousin's brother had a Transmarro that....blah....blah...with a blah....blah...that did 185.....sub 4 sec.....with heat seeking missles.
Here's the deal, they know it's fast. they are setting you up to "one up" you.
I always just use humor......Like: Well, on the way here, I completely dusted this old lady in a Dodge Neon!! and we leave it at that....

The car they have or had ran low 10's with BFG radial T/A's. And thats cause it has a 3/4 race cam with Hollywoods.
I just tell them I dont know.

My license plate reads "THINK2X". It translates to 'think twice'. People usually don't ask me many questions after they read it. (Except for the people that ask "think twice about what?".)

My usual response is that I haven't had it on the track so I honestly don't know. The next question goes something like....but how fast have you gone. My typical response is 182mph. Their eyes get wide and their jaw drops. Then I tell them "that was on my GSXR race bike at Road America....but the Vette will exceed 80mph in 3rd gear."

I was parked at a local hamburger joint and one of our local LEO's was admiring the car and asked me "How fast is it?"
I told him "Faster than your cruiser but slower than your radio"
I told him "Faster than your cruiser but slower than your radio"

With cut outs dumping into the Lake Pipes!!You're showing your age!!Sad part,,,I remember that stuff too,,,and have BFG radial T/a's with white letters on my 69 Shark!!! At least I have had my FRC at the strip,,with only a Blackwing filter,,full stock exhaust except for mufflers,,and manages to run a 13.08/110.24 on the stock Goodyear runflats!! Good enough for me!! If they or their friend/cousin or whoever can top that,,,GOOD FOR THEM,,,I know what mine can do,,and get low 20's city and 30 highway in the bargain!! My ego doesn't need to be stroked !!

I tell people my car's really slow. Usually something like this:
0-60 in 12 seconds.
1/4 in 21 seconds.
top speed 85mph.
Pisses people off because they know I'm pulling their chain, but I don't see any reason to tell them how fast my car is unless there's a point to it. On this board there's always been a point, so I say what I actually got at the track.
Some kid actually believed my car did the 1/4 mile is some ridiculously high number like 20+ seconds. He said something along the lines of "Oh, cool! So my Accord should beat it." LOL I said "Sure."

I never talk numbers when people ask me that. It just turns into a bragging contest, so I usually end that sort of talk with a smug response such as:
1. It's fast enough to get me in trouble
2. It's fast enough to get me OUT of trouble
or my personal fav
3. Anyone can drive a car fast....not everyone has a fast car!
