Default My 98 Coupe Build

Just purchased a 98 6-speed coupe in August 2021 (105k). The car will be used as a nice weather cruiser and autocross car. I don't plan to build to a specific class as I run with Porsche, BMW, and the SCCA clubs.

Known mods when purchased:
1 - Borla S-type axle back
2 - Unkown H-type catted mid section exhaust
3 - Dual cone intake (Edlebrock filters?)
4 - C6 shifter
5 - Double din sony radio
6 - Unknown adjustable racing seats with sliders
7 - C6 Z06 replica wheels in black

September 2021 Update
General work:
1. Removed driver and passenger window tints to pass NY inspection
2. Removed tree seeds from HVAC fan (sounded like a balloon squeal but random)

Fluid Change:
1. Mobil 1 extended performance 5w-30 w/ filter
2. GM 88861800 transmission fluid
3. GM 88900401 differential fluid with GM 88900330 friction modifier
4. GM 19299570 clutch and brake fluid (just reservoir change for now as my brake bleeder broke)
5. Have GM 19329448 power steering fluid waiting to go in (bottle was damaged during shipping)
6. Waiting to change coolant until I have some more time.

Issues:
1. Floppy passenger side mirror (tried to fold in and now it needs to be fixed).
2. Going to adjust/grease the shifter as it feels like it needs it.

Plans:
1. Drive the car more.
2. Grab another set of 18x10.5 C6 replicas for the front. Sell the two 17s.
3. Run a set of 315/30/18 tires. Either Falken RT-660 or RT615K+. I think given the time of year I might wait till spring to purchase. I am looking for this set to be usable for autocross and street driving so I am leaning towards the 615k+. I plan long term to get another set of (4) 18x10.5 and run A7 takeoffs for autocross.

Welcome to the forum! The car looks great! Glad to hear that you are taking good care of it. I suspect the H-pipe that you reference is actually the stock mid-pipe on the car. I hope that the car gives you many miles of smiles. If you have any questions, just let us know. We are always happy to help.

I always love to see people giving love and attention to the early C5s. They get kind of a bum rap IMO.

Your car looks great. Love the red with black wheels.

Bummer you had to remove your side window tint. Hopefully you can put it back.

Added Mobil One synthetic grease to the shifter and adjusted it, very noticeable improvement.

Welcome aboard. Replicas, there’s a place for replicas, can’t remember them, I’ve been away more than two years. Nice Vette!

A little late but some updates. I had taken pictures but unfortunately my phone died.
Winter 2022:
- Finished up changing all of the fluids.
- Changed the lock cylinder as I was having some HVAC power issues.
- Changed the HVAC blower as it was noisy.
- Did the lamp threaded rod repair to fix the passenger side mirror.
- Added the passenger side double cup holder.

Spring Update:
- Picked up a second set of 18x10.5 to run a square setup from OE Wheels.
- Picked up (4)315/30/18 RT-615k to be my street/AX tires until I get another set of wheels.
- Picked up cling numbers from Firestorm Graphix
- Removed front upper control arm shims and had the car aligned.
- Completed my first autocross in the car. Finished 27/50 on a cold windy day. Driver mod is needed.

Summer Update:
- Finished second autocross in the car and finished 18/39 in raw time. It was a hot day and the car ran without issue. I need to find a way to remember to shut off traction control because I keep scraping my first run in the second session with it still on.

Looks like a blast; how'd the tires hold up?

They seem to be holding up great. I will say that everyone faster than me is on RT660s or better. I was concerned about heat cycling out the RT660s as I try to drive to work once a week which is around 50 miles.

Looks like a lot of fun. I’ve run about a dozen auto cross events, it’s been awhile, probably 12 years since I ran one. I started doing road course more. When I did autox, I wasn’t going for time. I was on stock Goodyear runcraps. I was just having fun. I even ran roadcourse on stock Goodyear runcraps. Switched to Bridgestone potenza sport tires on a roadcourse, wow what a difference tires make. I can only imagine what those Falkon tires feel like on autox vs the stock good years. Good luck with improving time. Seat time, etc…. And mines an A4 trans, lol. I still have original trans after all these years of beating on it.

Got another set of new 18x10.5 rep wheels on clearance for soo cheap I couldn't say no. I am not a fan of the machined face, so looking for ideas to wrap over the face. I am thinking matt or gloss black. Only need these for autocross so the wrap doesn't need to last long.
