How to clean Vortex Ram Air filter
Decided time to clean out filter and housing. How do you clean the filter? Blow it out (inside out)? Wash it? Wash it with K&N soap then after drying lightly oil on the outside with K&N filer oil?

Pretty simple I just did mine last week and been doing other filters the same way. I use the air compressor and blow all the air from the inside out. Then I soak it in a bucket of soapy water for 10 minutes and then give it a nice scrubbing with a brush(toothbrush works great) Then I hit it with the air compressor again and then let it sit in the sun to dry. Then after it's dry I spray it with K&N oil and let it sit again for bit in the sun to soak and after awhile I reinstall.Pretty easy I'm sure their are other ways but been doing that for years no issues.

I remember reading that high pressure air will dammage the filter element not sure if it's true so I just spray it with the K&N soap then wash it in the sink real good rinse off let dry and oil it again using the K&N oil

You can find the cleaning instructions for the S&B filters here. Notice that their kit uses a pre-measured syringe instead of the aerosol kit from K&N. Either kit will work, but use the aerosol applicator sparingly to avoid MAF contamination. Diluted SIMPLE GREEN can be used to clean if you have either kit and run out of their cleaning solutions...

DO NOT USE COMPRESSED AIR for any cotton gauze or synthetic media after market filters. It will separate/damage the cotton gauze media and allow contaminants into the air stream.
Here's the K&N cleaning instructions...

And read #19 here about use of compressed air...

Yes, there's another way to do it. I cleaned mine last week.
Loosen the hose clamp where the filter attaches to the intake tube. Remove the six screws that fasten the ram air box to the shroud. Whole thing should lift off. I cleaned mine with a K&N air filter cleaning/oiling kit.
I don't know about you, but I have a grille installed under the car where the air flows through. It's a lot more screws and a worse angle to remove the filter from the bottom.
