Default Sad ending for my first Vette.

Hey everyone,

Last June I bought my first Corvette. A 2000 millennium yellow manual convertible. A Corvette has been my dream car since I was 5 or 6 and finally got one at 27. At first I was afraid of the car, almost didn’t like the attention I was getting from people, didn’t like the plastic-ish interior and hated hills because of it being a stick. But after taking it on my first “long” drive I was completely in love. The car had the power, could corner and got the looks of envy from people.

I had my dream car, it was finally a reality and I was loving the hell out of it. I’d park it at home wishing I’d have driven it a little longer and always looking forward to the next day when I could take it to work or cruise around or go find some twisty woodsy roads.

The car was coming on vacation with us last weekend until everything went badly. I woke up 10 minutes late Friday May 4th, hurried to get ready for work and hopped in the car. I stopped at the gas station down the street and filled the tank while I got some coffee inside.

I started down the residential road back past my place towards the main road. I saw a car waiting to turn left out of the daycare driveway and waiting for the car heading in the opposite direction as me. As I got closer the car went past her and she proceeded to not even look left and pulled out right in front of me....

I had time to brake and swerve and tense up... but I didn’t have enough time to stop completely. I hit her doing 20 or so and really messed my back and neck up because of the angle I hit her and how much I tensed up. We called the police, her husband and my fiancé came to the scene because it was so close to home. She was incredibly apologetic and admitted to not looking.

Unfortunately my Corvette has frame damage and is totaled... I said goodbye to it yesterday with tears in my eyes.

I’ll get another one eventually but it won’t be the same as my first.

Sorry to see the damage and hear that the car is totaled. Good luck finding a replacement when you are ready. And hope you get to feeling better.

I hate to hear that, glad your okay, that was a beautiful car, I always like seeing a yellow C5. I am 33 and got my dream car electron blue coupe, owned it for three years as of this month, I love it to pieces. Hope you get another yellow convertible soon.

Man thats tough.Lucky you are ok, but i would stay on top of any potential problems with your back and neck.Careful dealing with insurance company about your injuries because they like to have you sign off for a lowball offer.Other drivers tend to overlook Vettes as they sit low and most folks today drive higher SUV's and trucks.Hope everything works out ok.

I’m keeping my medical claim open with their insurance for awhile. I got X-rays and didn’t realize how messed up my back and neck were until then. So I’ve been seeing a chiropractor and considering a physical therapy possibly. I feel like such a wuss because it happened at only 20, if not slower and I’ve been out of work over a week because everything I do hurts.

Ive been looking at other C5s and even C6s. But I’m being really picky and need something within 3 days when we need to give the rental back.

You’re smart to keep open the possibility of any medical claims, and don’t feel like a wus either. I know from personal experience back pain is no joke. Hopefully you can recover with physical therapy and get into another Corvette real soon. Best of luck!

At least you're OK, they made plenty of Corvettes.

From the picture, it Certainly doesn't look like it's bad enough to hurt the frame. It must have hit on a critical area.

That is what I was thinking. Did the insurance company actually have the car inspected by a Corvette mechanic or body shop or are they just making the assumption that there is frame damage?

I would question it just in case.

Could you provide any further detail?

It was at the body shop for about a week before they told me “It required more dissassembling than originally thought” I honestly didn’t think it’d be totaled either. I was just waiting to get it back.

A family friend had had me call his attorney today and the guy says Geico (the other persons insurance) is the worst when it comes to this type of thing. He also told me “I’ll have plenty of options on another Corvette once we’re done with them.” I’m looking forward to working with him.

Hate to ask BUT....you do have an attorney, who does things like this for a living don't you? You better get one at least to cover yourself.
