Default Yell, scream and call me what you will...

I love my 2004 corvette and my 2001 F150 but OMG the difference in quality is amazing.
Is GM that far behind Ford? Is this why GM failed in 2009-10 and Ford didn’t?
Really, I love my corvette but I cannot trust it. It has stranded me countless times and My F150 failed me ONE TIME d/t a dead battery, and a simple jump fixed that and it was my fault 100%
I purchased them both new. The ford cost me 28 grand and the corvette right at forty+. The ford has 130,000 and the vette 59,000. Even with the advanced miles on the ford, if I have to get somewhere without fail I take the ford, it just keeps going where as the vette seems to give me grief about every other month, mostly electrical and other little BS stuff (seat, windows ,traction control, HUD, etc) . The most recent vette problem, the HUD bezel cracked in two places and the HUD is drifting down to the point it can’t be seen, and today the vette key wouldn’t go into the ignition or start the car, granted, just a shot of WD40 fixed it, but I had to walk home to get it!
To be fair I don’t own a ford car so perhaps it’s not a fair comparison but the amount of money I have put into the vette vs. the F150 is 10 to 1 and the vette is newer and has much less mileage.
I want a new corvette…..BUT I really wish the vette/ GM had better quality.
Yell, scream and call me what you will BUT I own both and ford has much better quality.
Anyone see anything different? Is the 2010 vette that much better then the 2004? Due tell....

I beg to differ. I have had numerous vettes in all of the C series and have found them to be ultra reliable and low maintence. Lots of F150 owners that I know are having engine and transmission failures before 100,000 miles. As far as the cars, I have been in sales for 25 years and averaged driving lots of company cars about 45k per year. I have driven GM and Ford and only the Ford models have left me stranded. When the company started allowing us to purchase our our cars in 1995, I started with a used 94 K-5 Blazer with 19k miles which I drove and pulled my bass boat for 330,000 miles and then sold it to my sister. It was all original inc engine, transmission, interior, paint, etc. Your 2004 vette should be a good model but you may have a lemon.

I've only had an axle seal replaced in almost 70K miles. Not too bad in my opinion. Pretty similar to my Dodge Ram and my CR-V Honda.

Ford does not have a comparible product to the GM Corvette. However I do agree that my 1993 Thunderbird SC was far better than my 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix, both in terms of performance and quality.

Time have changed and Ford has grown stronger while GM continues to struggle.

My 2004 Convertible has given me 6 years of fun with no troubles.

How's that Ford do on a Winding mountain road?

Handles like a truck?.......go figure.

Vette quality could be a bit better on the small $hit, but the power and handling I get,for the money, allows me to look past the nitpicky crap, and appreciate the Vette for what it is-the only true American sports car.

And I've driven F-150's -and "fun" is not a term that springs to mind when thinking about them..

Lots of very reasonably priced vehicles exist out there, and when I bought the Vette,I could have plunked down the cash on one of them if I wanted to,BUT I didn't want to.
I was lurking on this forum for 2 years before I bought my Vette,so I knew they weren't perfect, but I bought one anyway.

Not a moments regret,and it's been a year and a half.

I have a truck,its an 06 Toyota,and it's probably every bit as dependable as your Ford--BFD---it just ain't no FUN !

How many times have you heard "Dude-SWEET F-150"?

I would say you bought yourself a Lemon, Better sell it so you can sleep at night.
Did you expect everyone to side with you on a Corvette forum?
Maybe a group hug is in line.

dobewillie
yes, I do... thank you very much

Carcass
Yes, It is what it is.

Mr.Bill
I don't think its a lemon. It seems to have some of the same problems all C5s have. I am on the corvette form all the time and I OWN one. I sleep well.

And YES, I get people say " sweet truck" all the time. It has some nice mods.

In five years of commuting in my 98, 80 miles a day, it let me down once.

I am at 162000 now and it better not get another flat till i hit 300,000

Wow...162000. That makes me feel better. Looking forward to that many miles.
Don't get me wrong...
I would not trade my vette for anything other than another vette and a import will never be in my possession...I'm just a little more than disappointed in the quality of GM at this point.

2000 coupe and 1997 F150 4x4 here, 75K and 236K respectfully! The Vette let me down once, the truck once as well. Not bad for 311,000 combined miles.

Really not fair to compare a high strung race horse to a mule!

Well as you know, it dose not have one.
But it does have 6 way seats that don't rock
It has windows that go up and down without ever a problem
It has front turn signals that don't need to be replaced every times it gets wet and the bulb sockets don't burn up and need to be replaced at 40 bones a pop.

Like I said. I own a corvette... I fix it myself. I'm not looking for a shoulder to weep on...I'm just wishing GM would get it right.

two completely different vehicles built for two completely different purposes...no matter how much you mod that truck it's still just that and built to be that....I have never known a sports car that didn't have some sort of issue, difference is this one makes me smile just looking at it sitting still....just my .02

Hummmmmm! I got a cool suggestion:

Sell off the Vette for top dollar and buy one of those Mustangs. I hear you can get them cheap and they are better than a Corvette - ask the Mustang Forums and the guys who have them!

That Whipple is a piece of work and the whole 4.6 Litres is an amazing power plant for such V8 especially when it is coupled with the Whipple

They are the bomb and once you sell off the Vette you can rake the extra monies and really pump up that 4.6 litre

Sell it, Sell it! Get the Mustang and remain in the FORD family you deserve the best and only the best that FORD can offer in performance and reliabilty!

You don't deserve to even ride in such a piece of Chevy CORVETTE, I hear they are over rated anyway Get the FORD DUDE or a FORD LIGHTNING ohhhh yeah the bomb

Let us know what you get

Thanks,Matt
