Default another question

Hi everybody, I went to advance auto parts today to get oil filter and oil. They had a deal ON K&N OIL FILTER AND VALVOLINE OIL. it is 5-w30 full synthetic but I have not heard anyone commenting on that particular one.
I'm curious how I would it compare to mobil1 or Pennzoil for example?
Should I use it or exchange for a different one?

They usually run a special on 5 qts Mobil 1 Oil and Mobil 1 Filter for $26.99.

Gosh there have been so many debates on this recently, try a search. Of course you may be more confused afterwards.

You don't want to use a K&N filter on a Corvette C5, On the K&N oil filter then have a bolt head on the filter that sticks down farther than anything on the bottom of the car and it is waiting to get hit by something on the road and you can lose all your oil if that happens.

Mr.Bill

I've been running that oil filter on both C5's and that bolt hasn't caused any trouble. My car is lowered too! Best oil filter on the market in my opinion!

Your Corvette was filled with Mobil 1 synthetic at Bowling Green, but you can use almost any oil so long as it passes the GM spec, GM4718M. Read the label on the oil you bought and see if it passes GM4718M .

But you have to admit, It is asking for trouble not being protected.

I am glad you are having someone on your side with that filter, All I am saying is if you look under your car you can see the filter hanging down below the car with no protection, It is your choice. But me no way, Just my opinion.

I've used the K&N filter for my last three oil changes. Sure, it could get hit by something but there are a million "what-ifs" that COULD happen.

I think the odds are in my favor that I won't have a problem with it.

But you are correct, it does hang slightly lower.

Wix makes a longer filter #51522.It's about an inch longer than the #51042.I use Wix,but I won't use the longer filter for the same reason as Mr Bill mentions above.

A tall speed bump or road kill could whack it loose or off.

As always,IMO.
