Default HOw much money have you put into your cars?

When I was looking to buy a vette a while back I found quite a few vettes with lots of mods and lot more rwhp than stock ones but they were right around the same price as stock ones. And my 04 is stock right now and trying to add more rwhp to it does not seem very cheap lol, I think there is some one right now trying to sell a 900rwhp vette for less than 50k on c5 for sell section of the forum.

so I was wondering how much have u guys put into your cars and two why do so many modded cars get sold for so much less considering that the mods have cost so much money.

I spend almost 23k for the car and so far 600$ on "stuff" for the car. Probably another 1500-2000$ for new rims and tires soon

Probably way, way more than I should have, but I wanted it to be different than all the others out there. Generally you can expect to see about 25-30% of the money you spend in mods recouped when you sell the car, provided the mods are things that a buyer would want to do anyway. If you expect to make your money back after installing mods, there will be a sad reality check at sale time.

If you spend money doing mods to your car, do it for yourself, without any consideration for resale. You'll probably recoup little or no money back if, and when , you sell it. Enjoy the car, make it your own, don't worry about a ROI!

I don't want to add it up
Labor was mostly free, but LOTs of $$ in parts. I wouldn't recoup all of it, but I've actually had a standing offer on my car for a while from a friend (has a 100% stock C6 and C5) for a LOT more than I bought it for He's deadly serious and ask me every time he sees me.

I learned long time ago that you will never get back what you put into your car, I do it because I want to knowing I will never see a return on my investment. The bottom line is I enjoy the things I do to my cars and that is all that matters.

Two Things if you want to mod:

1. Have the money to do what you want, don't borrow for long tube headers.

2. Realize it's a hobby, not an investment.

You will be much happier this way, trust me!

Plus after watching the housing market and stock market over the last few years, a least I can say I enjoy my Vette. I never had any fun with my stocks

I have not spent a single penny on my car on mods since buying it....

It is strange... but it looks different in pictures now that the first day I brought it home... my husband claims to have no knowledge of the changes...

Mods do not equal ROI.

HP and $$ is exponential

I had a spreadsheet at one point, but deleted it after thee mod total surpassed the value of the car.

.....ironically, that's when i started radioflyer customs, and now i'm back in black.

thanks guys

When I bought my car, they guy that sold it to me told me when they were purchasing the car the previous owner was a little upset cause they wouldn't give him anything more for the car with his stereo system and interior (see my photo album). They told him flat out, this is what we are giving you for THE CAR, not for your other stuff. You don't like it you can take it all out but we are still giving you ''x'' amount of dollars.

I don't know, but I'm doing some seat work and when I removed the seats, I found a dime and a $300 check made out in 2003 to Chase from the original owner.

I'm currently in court trying to change my name to Chase

I don't actually spend too much on my car yet. Just lights, rims, intake, headers, and exhaust. A few misc. interior items, but nothing big.

I'm working on paying it off first. I'm making 6x the normal payments to get it done in 1.5- 2 months. After that the fun (mods)will begin
