Can this hood liner be saved?
Hi
I have read numerous threads about how to refurbish the hoodliner. Has anyone had any luck re-attaching the thin black liner to the insulation pad? I have some 3M auto adhesive that I am going to try. Just wondering before I start if anyone has already attempted.
Mine looks like this. Numerous places have detached. Especially around the driver side edge. Also part of the bottom is torn from the intake.
The local GM dealer wants $130 for a new one.
Let me know what you think. Thanks

You should be able to get that cheaper at your local dealer.
There are vendors here that should have that available for about $87.
You could also cover the insulator with a kit.

Your 3 choices....
1. Saturate your hood liner with ArmorAll Tire Foam. Let it soak in for 5 minutes, get an "old" clean towel and dampen it. Wipe the hood liner with moderate pressure until clean.
When it dries it will look great!
2. Remove the hood liner and spray paint it with Dupli-Color "Trim Black". Let dry and replace.
3. Spend $130.
I've used both of the first 2 methods with excellent success. AA TireFoam won't make it greasy and won't collect dust (once dry) and it won't catch on fire.
I'm a detailer and I use AATF routinely on hood liners.
If it's too far gone, I use method 2. Be sure it's completely dry before replacing on hood.
Here's a "crusty" hood liner I did last week. AA Tire Foam is all I used.

The edges look pretty bad - so that what makes me think it is better to get a new one
I refurbished my old one but it was no where near the condition of yours. You could get a vacuum with a brush attatchement and clean it and then use Spray paint (Satin Finish) give it a goo dsoaking with that (I used two cans myself)-
I then used model paints to paint the embossed C5 emblem and it came out great
Thanks,matt

From the looks of that hoodliner, your money would probably be better spent just getting a new one. Contact Gene at gmpartshouse.com for pricing.

If you don't want to buy a new one clean it up as discribed above then when dry use a hot glue gun to fix the edges,it should work well, but take some time,If it were me a new one would be the thing to do.

I'm not trying to screw any of the forum vendors but shipping a hoodliner will cost $$$$$. Check your dealer then see if the forum vendors are close in price shipped. If so use one of "our own". The box is quite large and usually a premium price to ship.

Can you PM me with a supplier that sells the underhood insulation for $87. I can't find it for less than $125 on line or locally and if it is shipped they add another $75 to it.

That does look bad, especially around the edges, but, as others suggested, it could be repaired. I picked up a new one from my local dealer here in Mississippi, $130, tax included, shipping will be expensive, big time.

This place did sell a kit to cover your linner. You may want to give them a try. The price I believe was around $150 for every thing you would need and your choice of emblem color embroidery. Hope that helps.

FYI, a guy in my club just replaced his, and went through 4 of them before he got one that wasn't damaged in shipping. Apparently, they just stick the thing in a huge box without any kind of protective packaging, and they bang around in the box. You may be better off going to a dealer and inspecting the one you're buying. With the high cost of shipping, you'll probably pay less!
