You could repair yours, but you will eventually buy a new one. Just pull the trigger and go for it now.

Having installed a kit on mine, I would say you would have to get a new liner first - those edges would drive you nuts with a kit...

Thanks for the info. What if I pulled off that thin black layer before applying the "kit"? Could that work? I am in touch with the person who makes the kit so I will probably give them a call on Monday to discuss.

I assumed that shipping would kill any type of online price that beats the dealer's $130. But if someone knows different please give me a PM.

Thanks for all the replies.

It's to bad someone doesn't make some kind of binding or edging that would work for the edges. Some of us spent a lot of time painting the C5 emblem and if you replace the liner have to do it all over again. I tried buying door edge molding in a roll and putting it around the edge but that did not work.

Actually the black fasteners which hold the liner in place should melt in case of fire, releasing the liner to drop and smother the fire.

Really now. That is an old wives tale. The Under Hood Insulator on any vehicle provides "Drive-by Noise Abatement". That is the reason for having one on the vehicle. Not to protect the paint from the heat of the engine; and again, not to release for smothering by the plastic pins burning up in a fire. Take an 800+ degree heat gun and try burning up the pins.

If you want to know the ins and outs of insulators, anyone is welcome to contact me via PM with questions or to have a phone conversation. I am known as "The Insulator Man"; inventor of the Custom Embroidered Under Hood Insulator in both complete and kit form. I now have created a custom coating process for a lifetime of ownership finish on all Under Hood Insulators. Withstands daily use, always provides a show quality appearance. Unlimited design services.

All the best,

Rich

Na na hey hey...say good bye! It's not just dirty, it's funky looking, should have been dumped long ago! Get a new one, and not be afraid to open the hood in public!

Mine looks like this. Numerous places have detached. Especially around the driver side edge. Also part of the bottom is torn from the intake.

The local GM dealer wants $130 for a new one.

Let me know what you think. Thanks

I hear you - It was annoying me so I ended up taking it off a week or so ago and am running without it. I am just trying to figure out what I want to do. I have talked to Rich and seen his great work. Gene will not ship the liners anymore due to costs and frequent damage. That $85 price looked quite tempting.

I don't have one, as I have a MCM, but will order a new one too for my BMW.

I just remove mine when they get nasty. Sure I could get another one, but carrying a fire extinguisher is probably more effective, and cheaper than $130.00.
