2003's.....FACT!!!! 425HP!!
Just got off the phone with my friend at the excutive leval at GM, confirmed the rumor of HP increase in the 03's! So don't be surprised when you see ton's of people dump thier 02's to get the increased HP in the 03's! Take my advice now, sell your 02's as soon as possible! The increase is going to be unbelievable!!

Well, I appreciate your insight, but I will hold on to my 2002 Z06 for right now. My Z06 with the Haltech T-1 puts out about the same horsepower as the new z06 supposedly will have. I wouldn't say the differance is AMAZING maybe if your going to go from an 01 Z06 it might be. Plus. I will wait for official word, as to what changes are exactly happening, before ultimately making my decision.

As stated above, I wouldn't call another 20 hp "amazing" It's less "amazing" than it was going from 385-405, and it's probably not going to be much faster. That being said, I feel the need to have the latest and greatest. BUT, I'm going to hang on to my 02, supercharge it, and wait till the C6 Z06 (or equivilant) comes out. I can't justify the hassle of getting a new one, just for a few more hp. When there's a new, lighter, better chassis, and a lot more power, I'll spring for it :).

This really shouldn't be a surprise. They probably could have given the 425HP performance for the '02...but they'll make more money when they can sell the '03s (with the higher output). Guess they're saving the 450HP for '04/'05 model. :yesnod:

I've also been hearing 425 rwhp. I'm waiting for someone to sell me a nice low mileage '02 when they step up to an '03.

No big surprise here either. There's no way I'll take a $10K hit or so just to get 20 extra hp which I doubt will be noticable.

Damn...just bought the 02 Z.
Now I'm going to sell it.
I'll wait ten years until I get the 500 HP C7

Anyone with a '02 Z06 and trades up to a '03 Z06 if it does have 425HP has tooo much money ... after taking the hit on the trade-in you could have made the 20HP from a few simple mods ...
If you are planning on upgrading to the Latest and Greatest every year ... LEASE! ... a 1 year Lease for 12K miles will cost about 15K ... maybe you should think about it???

But if you're buying a Z06, this is a reason to wait. Why buy an '02 if you can get 20 more hp in a few more months? That's not a long time to wait! Thanks for the news. Let's just hope it's true.
And please no "well, why not wait till 2007 when the C6 comes out?" comments. A few months is WAY different than something like that. If I can get the latest and greatest in a few short months, why spend the same money now? Again, let's just hope it's true.

Re: 2003's.....FACT!!!! 425HP!! (50thZO6)
 Personally, I am really getting sick of the whole attitude that a few tweeks on a new model year makes everything else before it crap. Must be something about these forums. BMW folks have done a huge dis-service to themselves, selling off '99 and '00 M coupes at rediculously low prices, all because the new car has a new motor. Well, the result is, a car with a lease payoff of $33,000 today has a market value of less than $30,000. Dealers are offering as little as $23,000 on trade-ins, and don;t want them on the lots even then. Pretty sick when the car has a residual due of $29,500 in 9 more months! It's really stupid stuff, and an indication that there is just too much silly money floating around right now...
I'll be keeping my '02. If the car market has degenerated to the same level as computers, where each new model wipes out the value of the previous model, then we are all screwed anyway. Using this silly logic, when the C6 comes out all C5's will be worth nothing, so why would anyone even consider the '03? Wouldn't it be better to wait a few more months for the C6?
Life's too short to worry about all this :bs. I have not yet mastered driving the '02 at its limits, so I'm hardly concerned about an extra 20hp, it's not a drag car. I will be paying attention to suspension upgrades though, in case they discovered some demon tweek that makes the car even more amazing on twisted asphalt, that can be retrofitted out of the Chevy parts bin. When I can honestly say I am driving the '02 through turn 8-9 at Willow Springs, with my right foot planted to the floor, on a sub 1:20 lap, feeling like the car is just too darned slow.... Or, when the '02 is just too tired a dog to take out for another hunt... It will then be the time to do the trade and not before. I could care less that someone else out there has a few more ponies, I'll just take them out in the curves :D
I would even be happy enough if I had bought the '01 385hp car (never could find one), as all of the ZO6's are stunning. They are all in the top echelon of performance toys, with very few equals and even fewer superiors. Nobody should be made to feel like a chump for owning/leasing any model year ZO6, especially not based on a simple horsepower number.

Re: 2003's.....FACT!!!! 425HP!! (50thZO6)
Well what would be VERY special about the 20hp increase is if it come from reworked heads.
Now with reworked heads all the "well if I just add a *****, and I'll have just as much hp" comments really are just "sour grapes" comments. But if they do something nominal like air-intake or exhaust improvements then, yes, there really would not be that much difference between the 02 and 03.
However, with better flowing heads, all those add on's for the 01/02 will work even better on the 03.
I lost my 02 order so I would LOVE to get an extra 20hp on my 03 order.

This did make me start thinking about my 2001 Z06 Convertible, however. For what it will cost me to convert my 2002 Z06 into a convertible, I could install a Supercharger on the 2001 and be way ahead of the 2002 *and* this magical, mystical 2003 version. Hmmm... gonna have to think on this one a bit more. :yesnod:

I agree. I like my '01 because it doesn't have the HUD, to me it's more race-like without it!
