Melting Slicks
The GTO is a pile of junk that GM come out with because they lost their ***'s by scrapping the Fbodies. Wouldnt drive one if it were given to me. I still dont understand how you bring back a legend such as the GTO in the form of a f---in Australian GM branded vehicle! Bad choice, Government Motors. Thats probably one reason the Obama crew owns you now.
FRC all the way!

Go for the FRC. Looks better, handles better, better fuel economy, etc.

I had an '04 GTO and still miss the seats and interior, it was so much nicer than my ZO6. It does respond well to mods as does the Vette. I love my ZO6 and am glad I made the switch but I really liked my GTO too. I would say drive both and decide based on which one you enjoyed more. Good Luck and in my opinion you can't go wrong with either.

Coming to a Corvette forum to ask about us if we think you should get a C5 or a GTO is liking walking into a police station and asking them if they would rather be fire fighters.

hey guys, i still have not gotten a car, seems like every one i settle on has some issue pop up at the last minute. anyway, i have narrowed my search down to 2 cars at the moment. one is a 99 frc with a lil over 40k miles for 15000.
sencond is an 05 auto gto with 27k miles for the same price.
i mainly want a nice car to go out in. this will not be a daily driver. out of 5 cars i have owned only 1 was stick many years ago...and the trans went on me.
which car would respond to bolt ons better? i am a little worried on racing the m6 having never really had a fast manual car. (my old car was a v6 import with 120k miles on it when i got it)
what do you guys think?

I'd get the vette for sure.
I suggest you write BaBaBlackGoat who is a member here. He is a good friend of mine who races his GTO extensively. We kid him unmercifully about having a vette engine in the wrong car, but he is VERY good on the track.

I considered a GTO only because I've got my first kid on the way in May and I'd like to be able to drive something with some flair/spunk other than the wife's RAV4-V6 and thought about a GTO.
Problem was, it is no Corvette and between the looks, driving position, and performance, I think I'd rather be limited to commuting in the C5 than compromise my commute and baby-hauling in a GTO.
I also think of an M3.

Bahh Humbug......
I bought my first 2 seater when the Wife was pregnant also, it was a 1981 Delorean and I had no car seat in it. Needless to say I have a Corvette now and 2 children and the 2 seater still works for me and my DD is a 1998 Windstar.
P.S. You dont buy a performance car to drive the family around in, that is what GTO's are for.

The GTO looks like a plain jane, 4 door car...about as exciting as a camry or accord, IMO. And I notice them about as much on the road. ie Not at all!
I just can't imagine calling a GTO "a nice car to go out in."
Sorry BaBaBlackGoat......

THe GTO is a good car but is different than a C5 so can't really compare the two.....I own both and there are pros and cons to each one......but overall I do prefer the vette.
