Anyone experience a rattle or jingling noise coming from underneath???
My car now has just over 600 miles on it. I noticed a jingling/rattling noise coming from underneath the car towards the rear. This is not noticeable when the car is idling. The only time I can hear it is when I hit the gas. It's most noticeable on deceleration. It's beginning to drive me nuts  . I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this before I take the car to the dealer. Any input is appreciated :chevy .

I'm not sure I have the sound you described. Maybe you just hear exhaust resonation which is normal. But if it's a loud rattling noise, something's probably loose and needs to be tightened.

Yes it's there and no there is no fix at this time may have something to do with the differences between the 01 and the 02 because the 01 does not have this noise.

I have the noise as well. Same 600 miles. Sounds like an exhaust system rattle maybe. Not sure. Gets a little louder when the car is hot. Downshift, and when you blip the throttle at idle it can also be heard a little, definitely between shifts sometimes. Have not had a chance to hunt it down or get it to the dealer to look at.

This is a normal '02 quirk...............
One guy had this problem, and it drove him batty........
He took it to the dealership. 2-3 times, NO problems found..........
Finally took it to a vette Specialist Shop.......the noise is coming from the area just ahead of the catback........
He had them install a Bassani X pipe..........and that cured the problem 100%.

HI QUIKSLVR02 -
I have 2200 miles on my 02 - I have not noticed the sound that you describe.
Please post if you find the source of the noise.
good luck and

Correct, the h-pipe is a smaller diameter to reduce resonance for the '02 < no pup cats >. The h pipe may carbon up and reduce or eliminate the sound or one might opt for an x-pipe.
Point is, it isn't "broken".

Sounds right to me. It is definitely an exhaust system noise. That's why is gets more noticeable on mine when the car is hot. You can also get a slight rattle by bumping the tailpipes with your hand. However, until someone produces a solution in titanium (x pipe, or whatever), I'll live with it. I'm not up for putting stainless back into the car just to clear a slight noise. I've had cars with quearer noises that were also normal. After a while it just becomes part of the cars personality. I can live with that.

Kwillmorth, Only the rear section is titanium, the section right behind the cat must be lower grade stainless as a magnet sticks. I have the noise also if I dont get used to it a good X pipe will go on, but I want to get on a track first for a base line run. Ric

Re: Anyone experience a rattle or jingling noise coming from underneath??? (Power Shifter)
Kwillmorth, it sounds like the same noise I'm hearing. As you said, it seems to get louder when the car gets hotter. I also notice it in between shifts. After making a hard run in the car, the noise appears to be louder. I'm going to have the dealer check it out just to be on the safe side. If necessary, I will go to a vette specialist. If the solution calls for an x pipe, then that will be in my near future. Thanks for the replies. :chevy

Exhaust Rattles
The first one is the springs that fasten the h-pipe to the front of the transmission. They're the type of springs found on some types of storm doors mounted to a chain to act as a shock (sort of a spring inside of a spring) When you bang on the h-pipe you can hear them rattling. I fixed them using Scotch 70 self-fusing silicone tape. Electrical tape might work but will eventually fail due to heat in this area. (the Scotch 70 is used in jet engine compartments and is very high temp) Wrapping these springs sort of "rubberizes" them and quiets them down a lot.
The worst rattle comes from the O2 sensors mounted just behind the cats. A ring around the top of them where the wire goes in sounds like castanets when you bang on the pipe. I used the scotch 70 on these also but I think it might burn off since it's basically going to be touching the exhaust. We'll see how it works when it gets hot.
Update........
I decided only to use the tape on the springs and used a few wraps of stainless steel safety wire around the O2 sensor rings since the heat here is severe.

Did you ever get your exhaust rattle fixed? My 02 does the same thing. I have an appt on Tuesday to get it checked out.

My advice is to wait until you have several thousands of miles on your car or you have a code issued in the DIC before you go have anything checked. Lots of stuff will fix itself and you can consolidate things that may be yet to happen. PFM. This is my fourth new vehicle in 12 months, I should know.:)
