Here's a checklist that I've used.....

http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/tech/buying.html

I have done this for forum members a couple of times, I looked at a Z06 for one person and a Viper for another.

If the car was in the Phoenix area, I'd look it over for you.
WE are a family.... someone on the Forum will likely check it out for you.

You invited my opinion so...

Don't buy a 'Vert.

Buy a non Z06 Hardtop...the best looking C5 model.

Default My 03 Vert

I purchased a 03 Vert, a few years ago, it has 17,000 miles on it. I live in the PA area, if you want mine you can have it. I am looking to purchase a Mercedes.

Frankly, I think you'll have a hard time finding a quality '03 'vert for 20K.

Even at 22K and change from a dealer, I'd suspect some issues.

My opinion only.

WHERE is the car?

Blacksedan87 offers some good advice about seeing if someone in that area would be willing to look the car over for you. Can't hurt to ask in the regional forum - many forum members are willing to help others out like that.

Price seems good for the year and mileage - as long as everything check out OK.

I'd say the price is okay but not great.
Black is hard to photograph in bright (sun) light but I'm not convinced this is great paint. Also, look at the underhood photo,,, the fender covers seems to be getting that faded white look. I think that indicates this car wasn't taken necessarily taken REAL good care of.

I'd have someone look at it for you.

check if it has the highway gears or performance rear end-makes quite a difference in the fun factor
If you want ot buy sight unseen, I know of several Vettes in the area you can choose from

Do not buy a vette or any car sight unseen even though l did but at least it was a private party.
And l was never interested to get the buy of the century all that l ever wanted is to get the right vette.

Couldn't agree more!!! Fortunately the Corvette forum family is filled with fantastic people and i would put a post up in the regional section where this is to see if someone would go check it out. Willing to bet they would!!!

Sounds like a decent price to me if it checks out.

Thanks for all the info. I have really began to rethink the purchase of this particular car. I think I've gotten hooked on the price of the car and may need to be a little more patient, maybe something attractive will turn up closer to home. I was finding the idea of going to Florida to buy a car and then driving it back home somewhat adventureous. Again thanks for the input. This forum is great and one of the reasons I'm looking to get back into a vette. I have missed the interactions with the good people here and the experiences I had while owning my last one. HS

Where in Florida? I will be traveling from Naples to Ocala on the 8th of January and would be glad to take a look at it and pass along my thoughts.

I appreciate the offer, but I think I'm gonna pass on this car. There have been to many cons brought up in this thread for me to feel confident about pursuing this purchase further. If the car was closer where I could go look it over and have better access to the seller I may rethink the deal, but right now I think I'll hang tight and see if I can locate one closer to home. Thank you very much for your offer. HS
