Default Installed a HUD

Just wanted to say thank you to those members who post "how to" here. I've installed the HUD today and the forum made the process simple. Now off to the next mod.

I've purchased a HUD for my car but haven't installed it yet. Which instruction instructions did you follow? How long did it take? Any advise before I tackle this project?

I used this post for info:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...d-install.html

Just take your time, especially when cutting the dash. I was able to use a cordless drill for drilling the projector holes. I didn't use sealant for the bezel. Ended up using flat washers and screws from the underside to secure it. The bezel has four posts that are ready for screws.

Took me about two hours. I took it apart earlier and also painted the console a radio trim for the dash.

Congrats on the install - you're right that this place has some great DIY instructions for members to follow.

So, what is the next mod?

Not really a mod but fixing two remaining issues. Next week I replace the steering wheel sensor and then replace the headlight gears with brass gears. I'm getting the dreaded grindning noise when I turn them off.

Don't show the wife when you take the dash out!

Would it be better to purchase a dash that had the factory hud cut already in it?

I used a hand held grinder with a cut off wheel. Follow the lines on the dash. No need to buy on already cut.

thanks for the info.

After cutting the dash, do you see a better tool than a cut off wheel to do the cutting?

I don't thinks so. It took me a minute to cut it out. The cutoff disc made a clean cut through the vinyl dash pad too.

I wouldn't own a Vette without HUD. Love it.

It might me a good idea to check the HUD circuit board component solder joints before installing. I suspect that the same issue that causes our outside temperature display to dim and go out, causes the HUD display to eventially do the same when the ambient temps get up past 75.

My HUD is fine in the Winter but fades during the afternnon heat in Summer. Cracked component solder joints are the likely culprits.

You should have done the al guage rings while you had the dash out. Good time to do it and it looks really cool.

The HUD install is a great mod. I added HUD to my car and did one for a friend.

Well tonight I took it for a drive and noticed a couple of the buttons on the right side not lit up. Looks like the bulb may be bad so I'll remove it to fix this. While I'm at it I think I'll do the silver ring mod to the gauges. Who sells these?

Default Hud

I want to also install a HUD in my 98. But would I have to replace the windshield as well? I was told if the car was not equipped with HUD then the factory windshield would not work, and also would I have to replace my stock cluster?

No issues with the standard windshield. You are only seeing the reflection from the glass. The projector doesn't shoot the image onto the glass.
