lol.. i am curious tho, how did they know which VATS chip u need when u purchased it. my car uses a #14 VATS. most people dont know which one is in there key. u have to have it tested at a locksmith or a dealer to find out which one u need. does corvettekey.com ask u when u buy it?

Default Corvette switch blade fob

I bought mine some time ago from Southern Car Parts (forum vendor). I was living in Houston at the time & took my key to Corvettes of Houston & they read the vats # for me (#6). I sent that info to the vendor w/my order. I believe u can get a Chev dealer to read your vats # from your key or do it yourself if u have a volt meter. Southern Car Parts no longer sells this item...Anyone w/#6 vats, I'm open to offers.

I just used a ohm meter to read my key... says it's 882 ohms which seems to mean I have a VATS #4 by the following chart that I found on the net. So, anyone with a uncut #4 that is looking to get rid of one of these... PM me.

The same reason, Kia, Audi, Mercedes, Corvette C6's use them....not as fun to have a long pokie key in your pocket when you can have a smooth fob in it instead. Then pop out key when it's needed....why wouldn't we?

God knows the stock key is fugly but I don't think that the key you all want is any better looking. I'm sure among all the talented people of this board in their various vocations and hobbies, that someone can make a key more suitable for the C5.

Default Flip Key

Does anyone currently sell these flip keys anymore? I need a new key fob and since you have to pay 80 dollars from a new one why not pay the same for a cool one.

Pretty sure these do not come with the fob's electronics, rather you have to put yours in the assembly

Bought one a couple years ago.

Works fine but it is much larger then it appeared in the pix.

A little to bulky in my pocket so now it's in the drawer and I use the OEM Fob.

I picked one up from a Forum member a few weeks ago. The key was already cut for another car, and that key had a differnet VATS number, but after a little R&R, it came out great
  1. Bought a replacement double-sided key blank with the correct VATS # from that auction site for like $7,
  2. Had local hardware store cut key
  3. Removed old key from switchblade remote (remove the dowel pin holding the key to the switch)
  4. cut head of new key to match old key for insertion into the remote (I used a Dremel with a cutting wheel)
  5. Reinsert dowel into new key and remote base

Crappy cell phone pics:

Close up of dowel pin (hard to see, but you can tell where it is on the key)

that's correct you need a donor fob to take apart for the circuit board, etc, or you need to use your original one. the unit comes as an "empty" box so to speak.
