Car Totaled!
Sunday 9/27 around 4pm less than a qtr mile from the end of my street goin about 35mph in the rain (truck in the shop) blink of an eye hit slick spot car went left, hit a tree dead center. insurance is saying totaled but i dont know what the offer is yet (jaw wired shut lots of surgery thursday no phone for me yet). ive never had an acc. before. anybody in the plymouth mass area able to help out with any advice on how to make sure I get what this car was really worth to replace or how to find out if it is really totaled? Hate to use cliche but it "doesnt look that bad". both airbags deployed(after my face hit the wheel lol) so yes thats expensive i guess. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Paul.
Thanks, Paul.

If a car is 75% or more in cost to repair compared to the current market value less depreciation and wear and tear they then can total. You may also be able to buy the car back for salvage cost after the pay off and then have to fix or use parts or sell parts to get some of your money back. Tough part is c5's have lost alot of money in the last 3 years and frame damage etc could reach total in a hurry. Check NADA and Kelly Blue book for values but it is the insurance companies formula on depreciation etc, if they are way off get an independant appraiser to look at car vs full value. Sorry about the accident, get better

Dang, I don’t wish a broken jaw on anyone. Like previous posters worry about getting better and the car later. Have your wife or family member deal with the insurance company in the meantime till you can recover enough to talk. Good luck to a speedy recovery!

I agree that strange any way the insurance calls any thing the the air bags diploy totaled even if it's not. They figure if it was hard enough to diploy the air bag's it's a total loss . hope you recover soon

Glad you are recovering! Get replacement insurance next time. It costs a little more but you would not have to worry as much.

Wow, im sorry to hear of your loss. I hope you feel better soon. I can tell you last year i was hit on 128 and Metlife paid 13,500 to repair damages. I had a friend that worked for metlife and he got the guy to write my car to the limit before it was totaled.

Check sources like Kelly Blue Book, Edmunds.com, NADA, and perhaps even a local dealer to get an idea on what the car would be worth.
And best of luck with the recovery.

Paul I wish you good luck with your car but the important thing is your here telling us about it. I'm sure you're in pain but that will heal and another car will come along...but replacing the "Paul" in this equation...now thats the tough stuff.
Glad you're OK (relatively speaking)

First off I hope you start feeling better soon. It totally sucks that this happened to you... We all hope you get well soon...
When are we going to stop being adjusters? You are half right although your not totally correct. It depends on what state you live in. Some states do not use a 75% value. Telling someone to look at kelly blue book is a freaken joke... The NADA will be closer to what one may get but insurance companies does not use a NADA or Kelly Blue Book. Also telling him to get am independant appraiser if the insurance is way off is about as smart as telling him to go hire a lawyer
The insurance will use a CCC estimate. That is what a car is worth within a area. Insurance companies are not out to RAPE people like they are made out to be. If they were to do that it would be considered Bad Faith. So let's not give advise to people inless your 100% sure....
