Default Z06 Titanium Muffler Autopsy (Pics of the Inside of a Z06 Muffler)

First off I have searched all through the World Wide Web (Internet) to find any pictures of the Inside Design of the C5 Z06 Muffler and have found "NONE" - But now we do!

I have been wanting to do this for quiet some time - I got this muffler from my buddy C5Wolf, he had a misshap and this was the one good one left over

I am making 701 RWHP and 582 RWTQ currently with the C5 Z06 TI exhaust, without the by-pass mod like the one here in the picture! I might do the by-pass mod in the future to mine

The "GENERAL" (GM) made a pretty good muffler here, I am sure we could help the flow by doing some mods inside the muffler ourselves "BUT" it is wayyyyy to hard to come by a TITANIUM Welder to sinch it back up!

Anyway on to the pics: The Muffler

The tool of choice to do the Autopsy: (Grinder w/cut off wheel)

Cut the Band off:

With the band removed you can see the dimples that hold the skin to the Baffles:

Cut all the way around the outer edge:

Drilled out the Dimples:

Two Layers of Skin: (Who would THUNK! )

First Layer Off:

Now with the Top Off Completely: You can see the Chamber design with Steel Wool wrapped around the exit pipes: Not too bad of a design that is quiet:

Pulling back the Steel Wool to see the baffled exit pipes:

The Whole Muffler Pic:

Enjoy fella's

Thanks,Matt

That poor muffler. May it rest in pieces.

Hey thanks Matt! You're right that's a pretty nice design.

Personally, I think the Z06 mufflers are a little too quiet... with that much power, it needs to be heard as well as seen!

they also could have saved a little weight by making them a little smaller!

BTW... the TI bypass mod is pure genius!!!

Congrats on finally getting to the inside of one of these. Thanks for the pics.

Also, if anyone has a video of before and after the Ti mod I'd sure love to see it.

Cool pics!
BTW. How much louder does that bypass mod make the car?
I'd like to try that on my wifes C-5 with Flowmasters.

How the hell do those things suppossedly flow so well? I only see 1 little gap betwwen the inlet and the first chamber that the exhaust can actually exit. The by-pass has got to be worth some decent power on top of the SWEEET sound.

Wow, it looks more restrictive than I thought. I didn't think that it was a chambered design. I was always under the impression that it had a through going pipe and that is what it gave it a more aggressive sound. I guess I was wrong. Very impressive post.

Thanks for doing this.

The Ti's are more restrictive than most people want to believe. I lost 12RWHP going from GHL Bullets to the Ti's. I gained it all back when I added cutouts.

Yeah I am thinking of either doing the Cut-outs or the Bypass mod - I really like to cool quiet sound of the TI's - so maybe I'll be around 714 RWHP wih the Cut-out

Thanks,Matt
