You are going to have to grind the stock tips off. They are welded to the stainless exhaust pipes.
I tried to remove the stock tips from my 2001 convertible using a Dremel tool, but after using up about 6 or 8 grinding wheels and not getting close to removing one tip, I gave up.
I took my car to a body shop and they used an air grinder to remove the stock tips. They also cleaned up the remains of the welds so that I could install aftermarket tips. Once they are removed, the stock tips are basically worthless. It would be difficult to re-weld them back on.
I installed two large, oval shaped tips that I purchased from West Coast Corvettes back in 2001. Each tip covers two exhaust pipes. They came with a bracket that attach to the pipes, then the tips attach to the brackets.
Sorry, no pictures to post. If anyone is interested, I will take some pictures and email them. PM me if interested.
