The owner used to work at the same company I do and was always working on the car, dumping a ton of money on it. He gave me a ride in it before the last major upgrade with a major boost increase and even that was an unbelievable ride. Every gear change slammed me back into the seat. The entire drivetrain was built out of the best parts $ could buy. I found that wheel/tire pkg. on ebay for him - incredible deal for custom, brand new setup.

Funny last time I checked Chevrolets were not on par with super exotics so no point in talking down on one make when ours is not definitively better.

I don't get why so many people assume a vette is some rare luxury item.

Again, our neighbor's brand new Kia sedan could be more expensive than our vettes.

Honda made engines for F1 race cars, so let's get real here. Honda didn't make the civic for the ricers to put 6-inch mufflers on there.

I think the S2000 is cool but honestly, I'd just buy a Miata if I want to drive a little convertible around. It probably handles just as well, at like 2/3 of the price, with an engine better suited for cruising.

if that car is getting 650hp, i would bet that the engine doesnt last more than 10k miles with the amount of boost required to get it that high.

I had a 05 S2000. I only keep it a year. Just wasn't enough performance stock. All the owners raved about V-Tech. At a certain rpm the cam bumps up and you get a little more lift. Big deal vvt would have been much better. It handled okay but I traded it for a 05 coupe with Z51 and a 6 spd manuel.

It was a huge difference. woooohoooo.

It's not hard to believe that S2000 has 650rwhp. Some of you guys love your Corvette's way too much.

I have a good friend with 530hp at the front wheels in his Jetta VR6. It has less than half that power stock and it's absolutely brutal. He runs a single large turbo with quite a bit of boost. The stock bottom end is TOUGH. He has had it on the same power and boost for over 4 years now. He races it every single weekend, and has been for that 4 years. Stock bottom end, stock tranny, etc. It's a V6 isntead of 4cylinder, but it's just an example.

A lot of you guys must not see the 500+awhp STi's and EVO's running around all the time now. Those are 4cylinders with no problems making that kind of power.

Some of you guys need a wakeup call. Corvettes aren't the only cars capable of making power. Try not to have tunnel vision.

True. Absolutely true.

But, there are also C5's running 1000hp+ on pump gas that pass local inspections. Getting to 600hp is no big deal, really.
Even the mighty V6 Supras can't tackle that feat, no matter how big the turbo.

A simple supercharger setup will get a C5 there. Past that (and the same for the imports) is where parts start to break and drivetrains have to be hardened. All it takes is money.

Heck, I've even seen 1500+hp in an LS2!

The argument wasn't how high C5's can go, but whether or not a 4cyl can put out 650hp. More specificially, whether or not this particular S2000 could have 650rwhp.

The answer is yes, it's more than possible.

Jeez thats the battle I have been fighting with the retard "brokenturbo" on there. I would be 90fwdturbo on that forum

and yes its possible to make that kind of power with 4 cylinders but they do break alot and are very expensive to get to that point.. I should know as I have owned a 655whp integra and 567whp civic at one time or another. They are fun cars but stupid on the street because they plain and simple cannot put the power down.

You can boost a quad four to well over 1000 bhp with enough boost. With a big enough bank account you can get any engine to produce high bhp numbers that's not impressive, do the same on the cheap, that's impressive.

Okay, bottom line....I don't give a royal rat's red ass if a Subaru or Evo, or Honda can "kick my ass" in a straight line, or perhaps even give me a bit of a challenge in the twisties...I don't care. I love my Corvette for how it feels around me....how it LOOKS, how it sounds, how it feels, and how it can show me the edge and get my adrenaline pumping. I like the package...it's a freakin' beautiful car....no matter it's faults.

The gorgeous pictures I take of my car just wouldn't be the same if a boxy Evo or Suby was within the frame. I don't give a crap if some foreign metal can outrun me......I'm totally enjoying what I have.

Mid life crisis? Kiss my ass. I don't make personal judgments about you based on what you drive. I expect reciprocity. I do however make judgments based upon how you act in whatever you choose to drive.

The Corvette has 1 important factor over the cars above and that is the WOW factor. Something the EVO's, Subaru will never have.

My thoughts exactly.

In fact, I don't even care how other '02+ Zo6 owners look down upon my '01 model.

F 'em.

Neat car, but all I gotta say is I got my '01 'vert for less (used, but, yah, whatever), it looks better, is more menacing, more spacious, and gets better gas mileage (when I don't have my foot in it... which is.. never).

Who said anything about a midlife crisis? I also didn't make any personal judgements at all. Where in the world did you read that on my post?

All I said was there are some fast 4cylinders out there and that the S2000 "could" be at 650rwhp. That's it...

Not sure what you could have possibly read that made you reply like that

Again, you are also blowing it way out of proportion. There is nothing wrong with enjoying or respecting other cars out there. The Corvette isn't the only car to drive, it's just one of the better ones in our minds.

Im not sure why so many of you guys are taking this topic so personally. It's funny that the second someone mentions something like this there are a handful of people that act like you just insulted their firstborn child. Especially when all that was said was, yes...it's possible. The original poster simply asked if it was possible for a 650rwhp S2000. Some of us know it's possible and just answered him. How in the world some of you guys feel you have to step in and act so insulted and defend your honor is beyond me.

Try to relax a little bit...

Here's a vid of it on the dyno, I've seen this car in action and it put 3 or 4 buslengths on my viper and a blown 93 cobra...

LOL all I know is at the track when the boosted ricers run, everyone stops what they are doing. They have some truly spectacular explosions!Besides, think of all the looks you get on the street.People simply love Corvettes, who ever looks at a Honda or jetta, etc?Well unless they are pointing and laughing at the huge goofy wings or fart can exhausts!
