They were afraid they'd like the car too much. When they did the show on the LS7 Z06, they DID like it too much. LOL And when Jeremy did the show with the ZR1, he was drooling like crazy over it.
A while back, Top Gear didn't like American cars at all. Almost never had anything nice to say about them other than the Viper being a blast to drive. Seems lately they're a little more open to American cars and haven't been dissing them so much. I've seen a few episodes where they loved the American cars.

I remember an episode where they kept complaining about the "bonging" that the cadillac STS did anytime you did anything. They also hated the radio and controls for having English on every button instead of the pictures everyone else uses. They would obviously hate the interior of the C5 Z06 but would get over it based on the price and performance.

Top gear hated the 98 C5 AUTO they had on their show....don't blame 'em

I saw a comparison show done here in the western US between the ZR1,CTS-V, and SRT8 Challenger about a month ago. I was starting to get pissed about all their bitching about American cars/roads/food/ everything, but about halfway through, they started changing their attitudes. The one guy was stuck for the whole show with the Challenger, and he couldn't keep up with the other two, to their amusement. Very funny show.

^^^ Yeah, and that was the episode that Jeremy was saying he absolutely LOVED the Zr1. He said everything about it was perfect. And for a while, Richard didn't like the CTS-V because he didn't feel a luxury car should have 550HP. But then when they got into the twisties, he started to love the car.

if you don't like english on the controls buy something foreign-this is America you know, if you are to stupid to read and need a picture you shouldn't be driving anything.

Top Gear must have a huge budget. I saw an episode where they converted a C4 into a remote controlled car. They drove the C4 via remote through the desert at high speed while proceedeing to shoot at it from a chopper.

I love top gear. I really found it funny that they shot up a C4 with a helicopter awhile back.
I don't mind their bashing of America, its quite funny...we do the same to foreign products, so we should all be able to take it as well as we dish it. I do prefer pictures over english so that the car can be available internationally...let the rest of the world see what a great car a Corvette is.
I find their show really funny and informative..and if they do like an american car, then its genuine. besides, I work with and have many Brit friends...if they like you, they bash you...its their sense of humor..not quite as polite as we are

Wow! stirred the pot did I ? I actualy agree with most of their car reviews and take it with a grain of salt on things I dont. The Whole we make fun of Americans and our product is just Clarkson being funny for the show. Truth is he own's a ZR1 now and a GT40, so he obviously has a little more respect than he likes to put on. We do the same thing here, its just Celebrity humor. I am disapointed he didnt let the Stig run the C5 z06 around the test track, I would like to have seen how it would have measured up on his score board.

Oh and BTW again its Ford GT not GT40. GT40 is the name of the race car used in the 60s'.

...still in a huff about the Boston Tea Party........
The British have few emission controls on their cars , oh sorry they don't actually own any decent size car manufacturer now ( though they do have a hand full of hand crafted car makers that produce a few dozen cars each year). The number one reason the Limeys don't like American cars is because British roads are so narrow and they couldn't afford the road taxes that an American car would cost.
Top Gear' s biggest complaint of American cars are fit and finish. Bloody hell, if I had to pay what they have to pay for a car I'd want a better fit and finish too. Though I have owned several British cars over the years i.e. '64 Mark3 Healy, Triumph TR3 and '78 Spitfire (both the wife's cars that later got Buick 231 engine swaps). Problem was alway reliability , as British cars are not generally made for Americans who slam doors and never open the bonnet. Had plenty of British MC in my early days i.e. Royal Enfield, All sorts of models of Triumphs ( units and preunits), BSA, Norton. All had electrical issues when using Lucas electrical componets
Top Gear complains about the suspension of the Corvette , every model that they have tested. But did give the new ZR1 excellant reviews, but who didn't. They did use a LS1/LS2 to power their kitchen blender, if I recall they were happy 'bout that.
I have to watch the show with something in my mouth to bit down on when they comment about USA.
