Lemons to lemonade? What do you think?
Some may remember my unfortunate intro to the FRC last week. Happily, I have been fully reimbursed by my insurance company.
While waiting for the right top to come along, I really hated seeing my car wear this (worse in person than it looks, and frame is cracked, although top still fits fine and is quiet and leak-free -- so far):
So, I was thinking about what to do in the interim, and recalled my 2nd-hand Fiat X-1/9 from about 20 years ago (don't laugh -- much fun even as it rusted out from around me in about a year -- representative pic; not mine):
The targa had a faux-vert look similar to the Porsche 914 which I think was designed to mimic the original cloth 911 Targa from the 60's (and similar to what 1st gen Vipers have as well).
So off to Pep Boys. I bought a $9 can of truck bed coating, a disc pad for my drill and some sanding discs, and went to work:
2 hours later, my salute to the original Targa:
That should do me for a couple weeks...

Nice job! Way to be creative.
Funny, because I was thinking about a similar grit/bedliner look for the lower rear fascia.

Smart move, but you also had a couple other options:
(1) Scratch the rest of the car to match?
(2) Glue on a vinyl top and put on a hat with a large feather?

Hmm . . that's what the guys on the Hummer forum use on their vehicles to toughen up the look on the front bumper area. I'v also seen one where the entire Hummer was covered in bed liner spray.
