When the C5 was first released what were your thoughts?

I remember sitting in one on display at a local mall, right after they came out (I'm 6'4" tall) thinking .... FINALLY, A CORVETTE I CAN FIT IN COMFORTABLY!!!!!!!!!

It took years for it to grow on me also. I thought they had just taken the C4, put a smile on the front and gave it a fat azz
It does resemble the front end of my 91 Trans Am a little bit too as a couple of others had mentioned
Now I really do like it. C6 still hasn't really grown on me 100%. When people ask me why I bought it, sadly, I will tell them the #1 reason was because I wanted the trunk, which can be attributed to it's fat azz It is really nice to be able to take a long trip and have room to keep your luggage all while the top is down

After owning several new Corvettes between 1972 and 1985 (and only Corvettes during that period), by 1989 I just felt like they were getting stagnant (style-wise) and way too expensive (they had gone from $6,000 in 1972 for a 454 to over $40k for a 350!), so I traded in my 1985 in 1989 and never looked at Corvettes again.
Then in 2000 I saw my first C5 (blue) turning the corner a couple blocks from home. I had no idea what it was and nearly piled my car up trying to catch up to it. It was the coolest "production" car I had ever seen on the street. I was sure it was some exotic European import - probably in the $200k+ range. When I finally caught up with it and saw Corvette on the back, I could not believe it. Six months later I ordered a black 2001. Still the coolest car on the streets under six figures. Driven it every day for the past 9 years!

At the time i owned a 1988 red coupe so i thought the vette had lost its sleekness with that huge rear but they grew on me as the years went by and i bought a black 1999 coupe. Great post alex

In '97, I was 12-13. When I first saw the C5, I was like "eh," since I was more into Ferrari and Lambos because that's what all the little chicks liked back then. I didn't really start to like them until dad came home with one back in '04.

I was 17 when I first saw it. I always loved corvettes and never thought that I would own one. I fell in love with the C5 and it was my mission ever since to get one. Never thought I would get one this soon. Now I have to work on getting that C6 Z06 or even better, the C6 ZR1!

I was a big fan right away except for the big rear, but now I think that is the best part of the car. I love the lines from the top of the front fenders back. Washing, driving, looking at mine gives me a thrill every time.

I loved it as soon as I saw it, and that love went into high gear after I toured the BG assembly plant in May 1997 too! I couldn't afford the C5 back then, but when they announced they would be putting the LS1 in the Camaro and Firebird for the 98 model year, I ended up ordering a 98 Firebird Formula 6 speed. I had a lot of fun with that car, but always knew that eventually I'd end up with a C5, as that was my first love. Luckily for me I was able to do that in August 2004, right around the same time the C6 was hitting the streets (which I hated at first but have grown to love it too, although I still think the C5's design is a lot nicer and in the future the C5 will be the more popular choice of the two)

I remember looking at the pictures and reading the article thinking I have got to have one.
Also thinking that the Trans-Am I had was as close as I was ever going to get.

Was not a Vette fan at the time, but I remember being excited about what I had been reading about this sophisticated new Vette. I remember being a bit disapointed in the styling, which I felt was derivative of the RX7. Over time, I've come to really love the C5's look -- even if derivative, the lines are much nicer to me (especially the butt), and of course history has shown it to be a much better engineered car. I am really proud to own one, and I always do the "lookback"

Loved Them Right From The Start
Stayed away from Corvettes through the dark years and waited for the C5. Then waited a few more years while the early quirks got worked out. Then bought a new one in 2001.

I always liked the C2's when they came out, then I owned 3 C3's and I loved both of these generations. Then the C4 came along and I hated it and didn't buy another vette until I got my new 2002. I think it is absolutely the best looking vette ever. I would love to have the power and engineering of the C6, but not the body.
