Potenza Tire Owners Inside Please
I need to replace my Potenza RE-050A's on my 99. They are 305/30/19 and they were the tires that were on my car when I bought it. My concerns are this.... 1) the tires don't squeal, just leave a lot of dust, and don't leave black marks unless they are really heated up. This always struck me as odd, but they grip pretty well, corner great, and I don't mind the looks. Question is, where in the world is the best place to get these tires (and what is a decent price) and why are there so many RE-050 variations? ANY help is appreciated. thanks

Would you be interested in buying a used set? Mine have about 3000 miles on them and are in perfect condition.
I need to step up to a drag radial to try and get some traction.

Sure, I'd be interested if they are the same ones I have and we can work something out. I'm almost scared to see what those things would cost to ship to Tampa from you.....

Yeah $266 ea. for fronts http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....1=yes&place=96
and $375 ea for rears http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=6
definitely "cheap" tires.
Edit : Non runflats are reasonably inexpensive for the quality of the tire. Devilman, I stand corrected.
To OP,
RE-O50: are directional
RE-050A: are not directional, they have an inside and outside and are asymetrical
RE-050? RFT: are runflats
RE-050? Pole Position: are softer compound with a higher speed rating and lower wear index

I ran through 2 sets of RE050As and thought they were great... until I changed to something else. I started on a set of 3 year old F1SC so I imagine that anything would feel good After the Potenzas I went temporarily to a set of Toyo T1R and now permanently to Michelin PS2. Both of these make the Potenza feel like it is on ice. When I say this, I daily drive my 02Z and am pretty familiar with it in all conditions.
The Potenza lasted FOREVER. I never actually wore out a set. I bought 2 new rears when I got an un-repairable flat in one of them at about 20,000 miles. They came off with a lot of tread still left. I eventually sold the second set on my CCWs (to De_Vette).
Long story short is that they are a great daily driver tire, they are pretty good in the wet, but the dry is a different story. The reason for the "dusting" and the lack of black marks is because they are hard as a rock. Dry performance-wise I would rank them WAY low because of that very fact. Just my .02
