Damn.. that just sucks

Was it running in those pictures or was it already done I noticed the reverse lights on. Was wondering if the water in the computer was causing it to do strange things

I'd definately go for the total, see what you get, then decide if it's worth trying to fix or not. Probably depends on what the buy back is. I wouldn't try and sink too much money into it.

Had the same thing happen to mine 2 weeks ago. Disconnected the battery immediately. Stripped the carpet, seats, ecm. Took the top off and dried everything out for 3 days. We were blessed with 3 beautiful hot days after the storm. Put her back together after the padding dried out, and no problems. Whew. I know I was blessed, but mabye you can be as fortunant. It only takes an hour to strip the seats and carpet, if that.
Its worth a shot to keep "flood damage" off your carfax. Hey, its only a 6-pack job if it works!!

Honestly this is what I would do, you can eaisly get those parts from a wrecked C5 and if its done right then you should have no issues, dont tell the ins you plan to buy it back untill after they agree on a settlement amount THEN tell them you want to buy it back.

the good thing is the car was just sitting in the parking lot.....it was never run in the water....we pushed it out to higher ground...the lights were on from opening the doors...Were is the PCM? I have the BCM out and drying off...the water only went high enough in the car to cover the BCM and the fuse box, no higher.

To access the PCM you have to take the front passenger side tire off and access through there. Let us know if you need help

Anything electrical that had constant contact with the water is unreliable............it may still work, but it is still unreliable. But the mechanical parts should be fine.

The insurance company will total it if it is in fact covered...........flood damage is a funny subject........start reading your policy carefully.

Sorry to hear about your problem. Maybe its just me, but I would never own a vette if i did not have a garage to keep it in and work on it.
Hope things work out for you

You have a lot of math to do. Figure out if the parts you put in it are still good, and what there current value is. Is it worth the time and money taking them off the car, or rebuilding that car.

Engine and trans need fluid changes at minimum. Everything electrical will need to be replaced or dried out. Seat motors, door motors, switches, computers etc wont really dry out very well. They will fail prematurely. Seat foam, carpet, door panels etc will have a funky smell if they are not completely removed, dissasembled and dried out. Really replacing them is best.

After all that would it be better to swap your new engine and other parts to a high mile donor car after you repurchase yours back? That salvage title will kill any value the car would ever have.

It sucks man!

Total it, buy it back and get another one to swap the good parts to.

It probably wont be a wash (may cost a little more) but

1) you sound like you know your way around the car mechanicaly
2) you wind up with a better car (having had two of everything to choose from) and
3) there is some value to whatever you dont use (or if you dont want to part out the rest, put it all together and donate it (as a car) for the tax deduction at the end of the year).

I must say, you're taking this awefully well

I'd be in the same situation without the knowledge or skills to swap out all the parts.

Good luck guy
