Default Bilsteins HD. I Did Wrong

About 4 years and 15k miles ago, I lowered my car and bought the Bilstein HDs. Great shock. Well this is what happens when you lower your Vette on HD's and not the correct shock, the Sports. I wasnt aware of this back then, should of done my research. It was a good shock but not the right appilication. I can push them in my self and every hard turn or bump they would bottom out and scrub. I bought me some Bilstein Sports for the rear and what a differance. I know I gotta buy the fronts, I can imagine what shape they are in. But times are tough and I gotta do what I can do. Just a fair warning to ya'll

Cripes, I was under the impression that the HDs had the same travel as the sports! I WAS going to buy the HDs too!

Thanks for posting this and saving us the same mistake!

Are you lowered on stock bolts or aftermarkets?

The bilstein sports bottom out as well if you lower your car enough!!!

I was not happy with that shock at all and will not use it again on my new C5.

Although I read a lot of promising info on the forum about them I was disgusted with them from day one.
Poor ride quality too, maybe my springs were worn or something because they were barely better than my stock oem 100k mile shocks.

Koni adjustables or coilovers for me on this go around

I used to use that line all the time. I told her I broke the cam in my Mustang. She asked how I keep that from happening again. I said...By replacing the heads with aluminum Trick Flows. LOL.

Somehow, she doesn't fall for stuff like that anymore.

Those are my HD's and I replaced them with the sports. I talked to a sales rep at Bilstein and they told me that the HD's are a stock replacement and the sports are for lowered vechicles. I havent driven mine much since I put the sports on but from what I can tell Im pretty happy with them, we'll see how long these will last.

I have aftermarket ones. I bought these at Fastnal. They are a bit taller than the stock bolts.

One of the first mods on my car was the Sports and Z06 bars and a Z alignment. Change the cars handling dramatically. I then added Z06 springs and it's perfect for my use.

Thanks for sharing the info.
