Don't think you would get a response from someone that had a C5 fall on them. 4" space is just not enough for an adult human to survive in. Be very cusses and use only equipment that is rated for the load and in good condition!

thats why i said "and lived to tell about it"

Everything that lends itself to support goes under the car....Two jacks, 4 jack stands, a set of ramps and whatever wheels are off the car at the time, whatever I've got, I cram it ubder there. Yeah, I'm paranoid...

When I was 17 (1976) or so and working on my Camaro (1968), the jack stand actually crumbled, luckily my twin bro stuck some cylinder blocks under the car too.
They saved my life.
These days, I use a (4) post plus I alway throw a tire or two under the car for the just in case.
My wife's friend father was killed last year when a lift failed and the car fell on his chest and crushed him.
You can never be too careful. Use quality jack stands, jacks and take pre-cautions.

I think it was in`61 I had a lowered `49 Merc vert laying on me for quite some time when some dude finally came along and jacked it back up again. I was so mashed I couldn't even holler for help. I knew better but got in a hurry and didn't block the wheels. I didn't know what a jack stand was back in those days. All we had was a bumper jack and a couple of 2X4s to block the wheels.
I use Rino ramps now, or a floor jack(s), and jack stands, and block the wheels, and, and, and................. You can't be too careful!

Long ago and less smart
Had a 68 Mustang fall off a scissor jack while I had both legs under the car, thankfully, it was as I was reinstalling the wheel and tire and I had the lug nuts on and was doing the initial tightening.
Had the top of a Chevy bottle jack break off on a 71 Chevy C10 while I was trying to get it up high enough to install some coil over shocks. Luckily I was still to the outside turning the jack handle.
Drove my 62 Vette onto a set of drive on ramps, the old bolt together style and had one collapse forward, luckily that meant there wasn't any damage to the car, but that set of ramps went to the junk yard.
Now, I use a good hyd. jack, jack stands, and anything else that will fit under the car beneath an A arm or frame area.
2 x 10's of different lengths with at least one end cut on a bevel are a huge help with Vettes. You can drive onto them to get the car initially high enough to get the jack under the jacking points properly. I have an eight foot set and a four foot set, probably should have a two foot set also.

All scary stuff. I built a pit in my garage and use it for all my under vehicle work. I try to only use a jack for changing tires and brakes. Even then I use heavy duty stands and throw whatever tire is off under the car.

I do the same thing, jacks, jack stands, and wheels are stuck under there too when I take them off. Being careful, that's what's important.

You can not survive if the car lands on you. Even if it barely squeezes you, you wont be able to breath. A friends brother died when his el camino landed on him. just enough weight thet he could not breath.
