Default Will anything not break on these cars?

So far in the past two weeks I have spent so much money
on my car, I could have bought another DD...

First I bought another T56 and had it installed- $1500
Tires- $700
Z06 rear shocks- $200
replace rear wheel bearings- $400
rear brake pads - $140
alignment - $80

So yesterday after getting my alignment, on the way home I noticed that now my front wheel hub makes a roaring noise when I turn side to side after getting an alignment. It was fine before, and now those two are going to cost over another $600 installed which is insane. I've NEVER had ANY problems with my C4, but my C5 everything that can break has. Seriously by the time I'm done with this car it's going to be a 97/09' C5... It just disgusts me knowing how much I have sank into the C5 over the past year on repairs alone, its well over the $4,000 mark!

What you replaced indicates beating the hell out of the car.

Did you grenade the T56? It probably could have been rebuilt for a fraction of the replacement cost.

P.S Tires are a necessary purchase so I wouldn't count them in the total.

tires and brake pads are wearable parts that, as I'm sure you know, would eventually need to be replaced on any vehicle you were to have. The alignment is just routine maintenance. As for the tranny, I haven't really heard about many people having to replace that.

I dont beat the hell out of my car, its my baby. I'm guessing its because its got 110k miles, and everything is just starting to go... I heard having larger wheels also reduces the hub bearing life by quite a bit. As far as the transmission, I heard getting 110k out of a Getrag T56 is actually pretty good.

Default And??

Okay, so what you're saying is that it is all understandable and routine but you're tired because it all came at once, right?

Understandable but you must be careful. Prospective C5 owners come here to see how they hold up and threads like this frighten them.

Better luck in the future.

I'm just being honest, this has been the best/worst car I have ever owned in my life.

on top of that list i replaced:

AC compressor- $600 installed
Torque tube/driveshaft- $2000
Clutch/slave cylinder- $1000+
Alternator

I'm sure theres quite a few things I left out, but thats all I can remember for now.

Holy monkey *****!!! You spend $2k on a torque tube?

When I bent mine I got a newer/used one out of a z06 for $300. Its a few hours of labor to pull the rear/trans/TT and get it all back in.

If you want to reduce the amount of money spent on repairs it would be wise to get a set of tools and start learning.

Are you the original owner? If not, how many owners has it had? It sounds like it been ridden hard and put away wet.Cars that are tracked have the problems you are having now.

Sorry for your luck bro. Honestly I don't think you can count tires and brakes as failure items. That will happen on ANY car, that's not a Corvette fault. I've replaced my tires and will be replacing my brake system soon enough. At 75k I think that is not bad. At 100+k miles I don't think it is outlandish to expect wheel bearings and shocks to be shot. As far as a manual transmission, I would expect that to go longer than it did.

Ever try keeping up another high-performance car past 100k miles?.... $4000 will get a good tune-up on a Porsche.

I got pretty frustrated a couple of times when I had to spend some significant $$ on the Vette - but in the big picture, what other car could come close on the total performance vs cost of ownership ???

sorry you have had problems.

A driver can really wear one out prematurley though. With previous owners who knows how it was treated. If mine lasts to 110k I'd be thrilled.

True, as with any part of the car. Just depends on how you service and maintain the car. I've read threads of A4s lasting longer so, who knows.

Makes me feel like i've got some saving to do. My car is a little over 100k miles now, and i've had none of those issues. But I am trying to track down a vibration, hopefully it doesn't open a huge can of worms.

It's not a getrag for one, it's a tremec....and it is very unusual for them to need replacing. This is the same transmission that goes into the 500hp viper and many Aston Martins.....they are as good as a 6 speed transmission can get. I've heard the term "invincible" uttered at a driveline shop. We all know this to be untrue...but you see the opinion of someone who does transmission rebuilds for a living.

Just a matter of curiosity.....Was this one built on a Monday or Friday? Inquiring minds need to know!
