2001 Coupe - both regulators changed under warranty at about 30,000 miles.
Passenger side froze in up position and Driver's side started dropping about 6" immediately after down button pressed then went the rest of the way normal.

I had to replace both window motors in my 95 Z-28 and my 2001 Corvette coupe exhibits the same lousy performance which proceeded the motor replacements.
I cringe at the thought of powered windows in a car.
I wonder if there is any preventive maintenance that can be performed to avoid window problems?

I replaced both window regulators on my 2004 Z06. The passenger window stuck again, so now I am trying a new strategy.
They usually stick in the up position, so I think they motor and drive just gets stuck since there are no limit switches and the motor drives the window until it stalls the motor against the stops.
I have been bumping my window down about 1/16" to unload the drive gears and motor, and so far, they have not stuck again.
The motors will usually work if you get them to go down once.
Also, slamming the doors forces the glass into the weatherstripping and puts even more downward pressure on the drive.
I found that you can hit the down and then up buttons quickly enough that the window barely moves, but it does reverse the motor. Of course, if you just hit the down button quickly, the auto down feature kicks in and the window goes all the way down.

i think this is a common problem on most cars - out of the 6 cars I've owned 3 has had problems with the regulators - on my 99 grand am i ordered a new regulator off ebay for 100 and replaced it - no bid deal

My '99 had a non-working passenger side window when I got it. I got it too work somehow on Superbowl Sunday this year, and that lasted for about two days before it was was stuck in the up position again. I've got a new motor and regulator assembly from a member off his Z06, hopefully that helps. My car is over 100k miles.

Was washing & waxing my 03 convert today (24K miles) and hit the top release button and only the driver's side window came down. Tried the switches, no-go, took the door panel off, and tried direct voltage to the motor wires - after being disconnected from the module (brown & dark blue wires read a dead short), then measured voltage out of the door module, which was good.
So it is off to the dealer (extended GMPP warranty) next week for a new motor+.

Burning Brakes
Many manufacturers have an issue with their window regulators......my 2000 BMW was horrible and I replaced 3 of 4 of the regulators at 220 or more a pop. The issues with most usually center around two areas and have to do with cheap or flimsy components. The first are the tracks,.........most manufacturers produce products plum full of plastic parts at stress and wear/stop points and the second is the electrical parts leading to the motor (take your pick). All could make a bulletproof unit,.......but dont because of cost contraints.
Personally I would rather have a robust and simple hand crank,........it works forever and is lighter.
