And you think THAT is going to be as bright as HID? Bwwwuuuhahahahaahhahahaha!! I've got more LED's in my front corner switchbacks than that thing, but would never consider lighting up the road with them more than about 18" from the front of the vehicle...
You're right. I "obviously" know nothing about this. I admit it.

I don't think I'd discount the manufactures claim so quickly. Technology in these and many other areas advances faster than most realize.
Flash lights for instance were notoriously inefficient and their light output was marginal at best. Today you swap out just the bulb with an LED direct replacement and you can light up half a football field.
A few short years ago memory sticks sized at 32mb were very expensive. Today sticks holding 32GB are available for about $60...
HID lighting is just the current rave but they too will be outdone by something better and more powerful and I think LED headlamps will be here sooner than you might think. While they all embellish the facts I'd wait for some independent testing before I'd call then bogus.

I'd like to have a LED replacement bulb flashlight that can light up half a football field. I think that the NFL (and maybe even Al Gore) might be interested too. Got any pics?

those guys take their flashlights very seriously.
They also have a section on automotive lighting.
