51 here, MN6!

TAKE HER TO THE TRACK!

Fall in love all over again in the first turn! Then hit the drag strip and get scared all over again! End of previous problem!

Work with your doctor on the hips. They tend to hold off until you get older because you might need replacements after 20 years. Everything depends on how uncomfortable you are. They will do it for a 30 year old but they also plan on future work.

The hip replacement is routine now and uncomfortable at first but should be really pain free if it goes well.

Here is a very practical thing you can do now though: Get a window valet if you don't already have one. Always open the windows before you get in (3 taps of the unlock on the remote) and get out with both windows also down. (Then get up and press lock 3 times and windows go up. It is easier to get in and out with the window of the way, try it. With the valet you don't have to crawl back in to close the windows.

For a different car to trade the Tahoe I say go with the STS. I have a new one and it is just great. (It is the big brother to the CTS.) And you can get the STS-V with the Corvette engine. Then again the Tahoe is a great car to get up in and out of easily with your hips... Lot to think over.

What about bagging the car? Air suspension for it. That way can raise it 18 inches, sit down easily then lower to driving height. Kind of the reverse of a bus lowering to let you step in easily. And get a nice smooth quiet ride when you want and firm when you want. $3 - 5000.00?

Can anyone with knowledge of the suspension chime in as to how high it could go up on bags?

If it were easier to use the thrill may come back. And it would also be something to show too.

I fought the docs for a while but got them to replace my left hip when I was 49 and my right knee the following year. I''m 53 now and just bought my first Vette a year ago. I want to keep the Vette and it makes me more limber just having to climb in and out. I'm in terrible shape and it is my incentive (though I can't say its had much effect this first year).

You need to keep the Tahoe for the bad weather days. I've been lucky so far. I have 3 cars but if I had to go donw to 2 I'd keep the Vette and my SUV.

Don't feel bad if money makes you go down to one vehicle. Keep the one that can handle all the uses you'd have for a vehicle. Then if things turn around you can make other choices. Of course if an STS-V could take the place of both current vehicles, you could still have some excitement.

Good luck on your choices.

58 here, with a bad back, that's why I'm retiring this year after 30 years with a fire department. But hey, once I get involved on one of those "spirited" runs, pop her to 120-130, brake, do it again, and again for 8-10 miles, I wanna be buried in mine.

Good luck with your operation....keep us up on your progress.

I'm on my first Corvette - bought my '99 coupe in January. Still get all giddy when I drive it and don't mind the constant upkeep with the black paint - though will never get another black car. Do feel the same way you do concerning my boat, though. Totally love the water, but the upkeep, expense and responsibility of it all is wearing thin. Can't live with it .... can't live without it ....plus I just bought this dang Corvette that I seem to be spending all my time and money on. What to do?!

Seems you're over-ripe for a "Road Trip!" I'll be 67 in a few days, in good health (a little arthritis, but no big deal), and looking forward to eventually seeing Spring in the northwest. Then we'll be off on a road trip, too! I've had Vettes since 1962, and it's never gotten old because we enjoy them as designed. You're as old as you think, so think young and enjoy! And don't forget to wave!!

Pull the key out and slide a new car underneath. Life's too short to only have C5's. Sell it and buy something else that you like. You won't look back in 20 years and think you should have owned fewer cool cars.

I'd take care of that hip first and use the C5 for rehab...........and once your back on your feet make a decision or you may be shopping for a 2009 Hoveround or Scooter at the "Scooter Store". I'm 68 and sold my 34 Ford Rod and 68 Superbee because I thought after 2 Heart bypass surgeries I was too old but wish now I had them back but love driving my C5. Best of luck in whatever you decide.

I too have those days. Same age and have a phoney knee, but very few gray hairs. I get in OK, but after a long haul I have to roll out.
Sometimes I long for a big Buick or a caddy, but then I snap back to reality because everytime I see some old codger and his blue haired old lady in a Buick or a Caddy looking at the wife and I in the Vette with the targa off, with there (wish I had one) yearning look I know I made the right choice.
Wife will have a Z06 in a couple of months and she had her knees replaced 2 years back and she still has pain.

We both still love those road trips.

Hit it with a 200shot of nitrous (which will be a giggle-inducing experience) until the stock engine explodes and then drop in a LSx stroker.
If those two things don't put a smile on your face, start looking at a CTS, STS or G8. They will be almost as fun, but more comfortable.

I owned my street rod for 15 years and NEVER thought I'd sell it. Well, I starting having the same "lack of feelings" about it. I sold it and bought my C5 convert and have never regretted it. I believe there comes a time to move on, and moving on from a Vette may be in your future. There are lots a sweet sport sedans out there that provide the comfort and driveability you're looking for. Don't be afraid to follow you gut feelings. Good luck! Ron

Went through the same thing with mine, until I started modding again. Hello HRE's for me! Just stick with it or move onto a newer model! Good luck
