Default Detent Bolt - Anti Venom - Can't Find IT

I have the rear jacked and and I can't find the detent bolt

It is on the passenger side right?

Here is a picture of the passenger side...could someone give me an idea of where the Detent bolt is, in relation to some objects in the picture

It's been a while since I did that mod, but yes... it IS on the passenger side.

I also remember that the bolt is pretty high up on the side; and that it is NOT visible from underneath the car. You kinda have to reach around into places on the side, that you can't see, and eventually you'll feel the bolt sticking out of the side. Wrap a socket around it and pull it out. I forget what size it is; but if you pull the bolt out and it's a funny looking plug about 1 to 1.5 inches long with a ball-bearing looking thing on the end, then you've found it.

edit: This was for my Z06; I don't know if non-Z06 transmissions have it in the same place or not, but I would think they do.

Ok, here you go. It's highh up on the passenger's side. It's going to take a 15/16" socket or a 24mm socket to remove. once you remove, in stall around 3 drain plug gaskets(copper washers) Napa part #704-1357 . put the plug back in place along w/ the washers and your good to go. What the washers do is backs the plug away a little from the detent. Good luck.

I used two copper washers at .05" thick each for a total of about .10-inch thickness. Keep the car in the air while you try out whatever you end up using, just in case you want to adjust the thickness.

Could you give a little more detail on what this mod does for you? Easier shifting?

Thanks!

^^The detente bolt is spring loaded and connects the shifter to the transmission via the shifting rod. Inserting washers lessens the spring pressure resulting in less force needed to shift gears.

Here's a copy and paste of my experience from a week or so ago I think the I.D. is 13/16ths or 20mm.

Just did the AV mod today. I can not believe how much better it shifts. I used 2 13/16" or M20 copper oil drain plug washers. Dorman oiltite part number 65277. I bought mine from Advance Auto Parts. $1.79

I also noticed that the detent plug has roller bearings that were dry and binding. I lubed it up with some clear spray penetrating grease.

Search for anti venom and you should find several posts with pictures or I found the link http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...t-find-it.html

Napa had to order them should be here Thursday!

Note Auto Zone Doesnt carry one big enough

O'reilly does but they were out of them

Note: I Measured the OD of the Threads on the Detent it is .781 in case anyone is wondering

So the next size up of washer to fit that is either 13/16 or 20mm on up! < Nothing smaller unless ya want to thread it on there.
