Air conditioner blowing out of defroster and ac vents
After a few cold days, and now it is warm as usual down south. My air condtioner will only blow out of defrost and ac vents at the same time. This is cooling car, but taking a while as it is splitting the air flow between vents. The air is cold, and I changed the mode to just face vents to no avail. Does anyone have suggestions.

The diverter valve or flapper directs the air flow to where it is desired and it works from a vacuum line. You probably have a vacuum leak causing it to stop working. Carefully look in the engine compartment for a vacuum line that has been disconnected, cracked or broken. Also, if you have been working in the dash, you may have knocked the vacuum line off there. I hope this helps.

Burning Brakes
Mine is blowing thru the dash and floor vents. I took it the shop I use(Heavy into vettes and have worked on my car several times) and they told me the "diverter door(s)" were malfunctioning. There are several reasons for this. The down side of all this: The dash has to be removed to get to the doors to determine the problem and to fix it. They suggested I go to the AC shop that they deal with to fix the problem. Looking at $400 - $500 to remove, fix and re-install the dash plus parts as needed.
Good luck!

I had the same problem and found a vacum leak under battery tray. Seems a battery had leaked sometime or another and caused two small holes in one of the lines.Replaced hose and fixed the problem.

If the dash does have to be removed to determine/fix the problem, try removal of dash yourself. It is not as hard as it sounds.
Just look up the instructions for a HUD install on this forum and it will walk you right through it.
I have removed and re-installed my dash in about 2 hrs total . It defineately sounds worst that it is.

I will have to remove the dash anyway as I also have to replace the little plastic swivel or whatever it is called on my HUD, it will not raise or lower, but moves side to side.
Thanks,

This is what happened to mine as well. If the battery has ever leaked, it will cause a problem later on. Take the back bottom fender well panel off and have a look. I am not the original owner so I had no idea that the battery ever leaked till I had this problem. Good luck with your fix.

I have the same problem. It is a vacuum line problem. The vacuum line runs off the back of the intake mainfold. It runs to a vaccuum box behind the passenger side fender. The vaccum line gets brittle and breaks. You can't see the brake because the vaccuum line is wrapped up where it goes through the firewall. Somebody posted a fix on this:
