If the fender is removed you'll see a lot more of the tire.

Unfortunately without one of those handheld sensors that dealers use to check paint thickness, etc, it will be hard to tell. You do not need to remove the panel from the car if it was simply scratched or had slight damage.

Paint thickness gauges don't work on corvette fiberglass panels.

check the edge of the panel for any rough spots in the paint, that's a good sign that it has been repainted, but if you don't find anything, it doesn't mean it's factory. Look at the bolts holding the panels on and check for any fresh scratches, but just because the panel has been off doesn't mean that it was for paint. I've had every panel off my car at one time or another an not always for paint and I even almost replaced 1 damaged panel with one from a salvage car, factory original paint, but from a different car. Only reason i didn't was because i didn't realize the Z06 and coupe panels were different until i tried to install the new one.

Good luck, even though I think you've lost your mind over the course of 2008-09.

Not sure why you are worried about the paint work. Depending on where the car was driven with 13K miles the wheel wells, lower doors and rockers could be starting to show a fair amount of road rash. The SC tires throw more road dirt up than the standard C5 tires do. Would you prefer the rash or a repaint?

look at orange peel, new panel will prob be alot smoother then the rest, unless they wet sanded the whole car.

you are hands down the most **** car buyer I have ever seen. I would be scared to sell you a car

I will be shocked if you can find a used car that meets your criteria, you should be a car show judge

the fenders have some adjustment to them so you would have to be really careful to get them back on in exactly the same spot. check the alignment of the fenders with adjacent panels. unless someone took the time and adjusted it just right, a misalignment could indicate that the panel had been removed. also, the screws which hold it on will make a small impression in the panel, look at the screws and if you see an impression its an indication that the screw had been removed.

so the orange peel paint along the edges of the trunk lid and the bubbled paint around the bottom of the door sills of my 99 frc tells me this is the factory paint job?! that it was not badly repainted like i thought? i also noticed that under the hood the front fenders have an adhesive that seals the inner part of the fender to the interior wheel well panel. the drivers side adhesive is green and the passenger side adhesive is black and much more neatly applied. i figured this could mean the drivers fender had been replaced. any thoughts on that?
