Default HUD in you Vette... miss it in other cars?

If you guys are like me you probably rarely look down at the speedometer in your Vette any more. When you drive the wife's vehicle or another vehicle non-equipped with HUD it is quickly apparent how much you wish it was there.

Well, I've got a solution and a LOW PRICED one at that for you guys! Available in Feb I will have my first shipment of our new GPS Heads Up Display that works in ANY vehicle!!!

This device is simply amazing. It's about 1/3" thick, 1.5" high, and 4" long. It shows your SPEED and a COMPASS. It also has a built in BlueTooth transmitter that will work with any capable map software on your phone or laptop. It will be the GPS antenna for your software! It works on a cigarette lighter plug BUT it has a built in Lithium Ion battery that will allow it to work without a power source. I've left mine on without a power source for over a day and it still worked!

The display is in red LED digital numbers and the compass is green. It is set up at the front of the dash under the windshield to reflect on the glass. Comes with 2 squares of light tint to place on the windshield where the reflection is to help keep it visible in the daylight.

On my 2008 Silverado I put the reflection and tint just behind the windshield wiper and it is visible even in the brightest sunlight! Oh, and it self-adjusts at night so it's not too bright as well - very nice feature.

It also has a built in programmable over-speed warning which will blink when you go over a certain speed. Great for long trips in heavy traffic where you can't set your cruise control for long.

The only down-side I've found thus far is that the cigarette lighter plug has a voltage regulator in it that outputs a lower voltage, so you can't just cut the plug off and hardwire it in..... I came up with a great solution though! I will be including with the kit a two-port auxillary plug kit that you can mount pretty much anywhere. I put mine under the dash and hardwired it in to the fuse-box with constant power. Now I have an extra power point hidden under the dash for phone chargers or radars or whatever you need! I will include this with the HUD unit and instructions as well!

One last thing, on TomTom's and other nav units, often the speed lags wayyyy behind on fast accelleration. NOT ON THIS UNIT! It uses 20+ satellites for positioning and reacts FAST to your speed. It's really a great device. Helps you calibrate your speedometer properly as well.

I will post a couple pics here in just a little bit of one installed in the truck. My first bulk shipment will be coming in Feb from the manufacturer so as soon as I get a better exact date I will start taking orders.

THESE WOULD WORK GREAT FOR C5 OWNERS WHO DON'T HAVE FACTORY HUD TOO!!!

The kit is only going to be around $100 with the instructions and extra power outlet!

I only really use mine at night and fully dim the rest of the cluster. I'm trying to get into the habit of always using it in the vette.

I've seen HUD in the CTS-V, the Grand Prix, the BMW M6 (I think some of the 6 series as well), and the Vette. Not sure I've seen them anywhere else.

I am actually surprised that so many guys don't use it. I mean, it's not like you 'have to' or not using it is bad.... I guess I just assumed because of how much I use it that everyone did. I do appreciate the replies from both sides though.

That's one of the reasons I ordered only 50 for the first round of orders! Good news is that I've got about 25 of them potentially sold.

I will post an order page for you guys as soon as I get a firm date on delivery. Hate making customers wait!

I had a 92 Bonneville SSEi that had HUD and really liked it then. When I was looking for my Vette, HUD was on my "Must Have" list. I use it all the time and really miss it when I am in my winter car or wife's car. I'll be watching for the unit to come on the market.

I tend to exceed the speed limit more often around town in my non HUD vehicles. I am just not as aware of my speed since it’s not in my face. I like HUD!

This sounds like a great product. I used the HUD in my C5 all the time and miss it a lot since I sold the car. I'll be keeping an eye out for your post on when these will be available.

wow....very VERY interesting to see how many vette guys are not using their HUDs. For me I agree when I bought my car HUD was one of the main options I really wanted. I even turned away some vettes because they didn't have it! weird, back in the day (99) when it came out for the vettes I specifically remember a guy on our corvette cruise in road trip named Larry who had a 99 with it equipped with it....everybody really thought it was super cool and made the vettes without out it a step down. Just my opinion though. Really cool product! Specially only for $100 buckers. I will definitely be checking it out more once I hear what peoples reviews of it are. I will also mention it to my bro on here....pretty sure he will want one for his new Grand Pre.

I use my HUD all the time. It allows me to keep my eyes on the road better. I rarely look 'down', except to check the computer display when I hear the chimes. The wife's Expedition doesn't have HUD and it takes me a few minutes to refocus on the dash when I'm driving it. Nice option for us to consider.
