B&M Shifter driving me crazy!!
I know this is a matter of opinion, but my B&M shifter is driving my crazy. Had it in about a year and while the throws are short, I'm tired of the notchiness and first and reverse being such a pain. I've read good things about the C6Z06 shifter being short, but not notchy.
I'd appreciate opinions and specifically, does it require less effort and go in to 1st and reverse easier? Thanks all.

Can't help you with specifics but you may want to do a search as I've seen numerous posts concerning the B&M compared to the C6 (and others.)

I've had a B&M Ripper in my car for nearly 8 years and it is a little difficult to get into reverse sometimes, but I really like it otherwise. I also had one in my Cobra before I got the Vette.

I just installed a C6 ZO6 shifter and like the feel and I think it shifts better then stock. But it maybe all in the mind. You can pick-up a C6 shifter on the C6 parts for less then you can sell your shifter for. So go for it.
Shifters are like exhaust systems. You have to try them out to see it you like them. If not swap them for another until you find the one you like.

I quess everyone has different opinions. I have a B&M shifter and absolutely love it. Short tight throw and no rattles or slop. First and reverse a little harder to get into, but it is desgned that way to avoid accidently shifting into the wrong gear. It reminds me of the old Hurst design. The stock shifter is a joke.

it's great but some days a real PITA!

When I bought my car five years ago - the previous owner had installed a B&M Ripper. Some time later, I had a chance to drive a C5 with the stock shifter, and I was absolutely appalled at how sloppy and how long the throws were!
I kept the B&M and I love it, can't imagine having anything else. I've driven a C5 Z06 with the C6 Z06 shifter in it - no thanks. The throws are shorter than an OEM C5 shifter, but certainly not as positive or tight as the B&M. It's like "Corvette Light" - less filling.
I've also driven a C5 with a Hurst shifter which is pretty nice, but I still like the snick, snick of my B&M. I love the very positive detents and the short throws - but like everything else, to each his/her own.
I can't talk about the others available, since I haven't had the opportunity to drive them....but I do like the B&M!

Did you do the Anti-venom mod? It made my B&M feel much better. FWIW, I thought the C6Z Shifter was too much like stock.

I went from a B&M to a C6Z06 shifter. The B&M was a pain - first and reverse were very hard to get into, especially all the way - sometimes resulting in grinds. Most gears required too much effort, and 6th was hard to find.
I had a B&M shifter in a WS6 and I liked it a lot. Different setup there, though.
The C6 Z06 shifter does have longer throws and a bit of slop compared to the B&M IMO, but I absolutely love it. Shifting seems nearly effortless compared to the B&M and I've had no problems with any gear since switching.

My Vette came with a Ripper as well... to customize the feel I alligned the shifter, did the anti-venom mod and cut 1.5 loops off the side pressure springs inside the shifter...
Huge difference!

Had the B&M in the 98 Pace Car. The first month or so I considered having it removed it was so stiff. When it was finally broken in, it was the finest shifter I have ever driven. I learned to love the short throw, snick, snick of the shifts etc. Never a problem with 1st. Reverse was a little notchie at times. I loved the B&M!

I had the B&M and had every problem mentioned above. I switched to the MGW and all of my problems went away Make the switch you will not be sorry.
MGW make shifter with 2 different throws so make sure you get the right one, i picked the shortest!

Tstar, never heard of this option. I have done the anti-venom and it did make a big difference, but cutting loops off the side pressure springs sounds interesting. Difficult? Any info on the job is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I made the switch from the Ripper to the C6Z06 and could not have been happier. It was so stiff it aggravated an old shoulder injury and was killing me. Once I made the change I was fine...I'll never go back!
