Do jacking pucks stay on the car?

If you get a set like the BMW ones, then yes, they can stay on the car all the time. Otherwise, for the other styles it would probably be best to only put them on the car when you need to jack the car up.

I would not use the plastic ones that snap in. They tend to break if you really use them much.
I would go with metal pucks for safety because they do not deform or break.
You do not say what type of pucks you have, but most pucks that are sold fit loosely in the frame rails and it is obvious they are not meant to be left on the car. The GM ones even come with little chains attached just so they are visible from the side and are not accidentally left in.
