Default C5 ZO6 Torque Tube Bearings

I have a 2003 ZO6 and I have changed out my second torque tube bearing in 18 months (about 10,000 miles). What gives here? Should they be inspected at a certain time interval or do I have to wait till one goes out when in "Timbucktoo?" I blew one last sunday in Monterey, CA 200 miles from home. Is this normal? I can't trust a car that will go out on me like this? Chevy says there is no service bulletine on this issue. I sure could use some imput.

Sounds like some kind of balancing or alignment problem.

I've heard of the bushing going but not the bearings. I would look for another unit from a parts car and replace the whole unit.

Default Torque Tube Bearings

It seems it is always one of the 3 bearings in the torque tube that goes out. I have got to get to the bottom of this. I will talk to the Chevy service manager about a misallignment of the torque tube. Thanks for your imput.

Default Misalligned Torque Tube

Is there any way to determine if the torque tube is misalligned?

You can have the inner shaft check, but I'm not sure how you would go about checking the outer shell assembly.

Have you tried to call the manufacturer that is stamped on the part ?

I would thing that they would be you best bet.

Default Torque Tube Bearings

The shop that replaced my torque tube bearings in 2007 also damaged my tranny. I had the Chevy dealership rebuild the tranny. So much for choosing a transmission shop that had no experience with Corvettes. Good thing I purchased an extended warranty...which will pay for this job. I will chalk this up to a bad repair job 18 months ago...or just plain bad luck with a bad bearing.

is it as simple as a bad pilot brng? the prolly botched up the pb on the install from last time, not giving the front TT bearing any support?
