Default Who is the stooopid one here?

Fellow Vette owner tried to make me feel stupid last night. Our band was on a break at a tavern and I was outside near the parking lot when a black C5 vert pulled in. The man and "lady" got out of the car and I complimented it and said I have an '02 Coupe.

Without skipping a beat, he says "Oh, well this is a 2003...it's an anniversary edition"...kinda snotty like.

It was kind of dark, but I swear it was black and said, "Anniversary?, it doesn't look dark red". To which his "lady" made a noise and laughed, "ha, dark red" like I was stooooopid...and or blind. They marched right in before I had a chance to note the lack of "50th" badges and confirm it was black, and with regular thin-spokes, not the anniversary wheels.

I just ASSumed at that point that some dealership told them it was an Anniversary Edition and they just didn't know any better. Hopefully, they'll learn more someday and come down off their high-horse.

Unless, of course, there is a black 50th edition....but I haven't seen one here yet!

I thought all 2003 had 50th emblems on them and then there was the 50th special Edition paint and insides?

Don't you know that the '03 silver emblems add 30 rwhp? Between that and the countless differences that separate an '02 and an '03 he had every right to laugh at you!

I'm sure that no matter what you talk about with that guy he always has some way to one-up you.

Check out 2003 Corvettes on Ebay sometime. At least half the cars listed as "Anniversary Edition" cars aren't. All the 2003 cars were "anniversary cars" but the "Edition" cars had a unique interior color and a tri-coat "Anniversary Red" exterior color.

The guy you posted about is not only a jerk but also a sucker!!!

I thunk the same thing. Isn't that the idea behind an anniversary addition??

Probably was borrowed or stolen anyway....

Okay, just did a bit of research and found what the badge looks like for 2003 and remembered that his car's badge did have a silver piece at the top within the oval. It was dark, so I couldn't read it but it did have this silver area....and it probably did say "50th Anniversary", BUT it was not the special edition of course. His poor choice of terminology but the delivery was uncalled for.

When some idiot plays that with me I just follow up with "Sad to waste a car like that on a douche-bag".

Yup, that is an extremely annoying attitude. Mine is better than yours. Hard to take these kind of people.

I have had horrible luck with giving compliments to Vette owners in the past. I have been laughed at by a guy in a C4 ZR1, ignored by several C6 Z06 owners, and degraded by a C6 ZR1 owner by simply saying "hey nice car". Mind you this was all in L.A. (CA), but I have learned my lesson. From now on I just say it in my head. Better that than going to jail for kicking their asses.

All '03s were considered "50th Anniversary" cars - all had the silver emblem on the nose and tail, convertibles on the waterfall too.

However '03 coupes and convertibles could be had with the 1SC package which consisted on the special Anniversary Red paint, the champagne colored thin spokes and the shale interiors (convertibles also had the shale colored top). They were pretty much fully optioned cars and also had the 50th Anniversary badge on the front 1/4 panel. The Z06 could not be ordered with the package.

Unfortunately - this guy was a RICHARD CRANIUM if you know what I mean.....and we sometimes wonder why Corvette owners get a bad rap.
