They're both high quality synthetics.

But then again.... anytime you ask about oil - there's always heated debate (atleast on most auto enthusiast forums I've been on). So sit back and watch the show....

We're running Amsoil in our diff & tranny.

Amsoil does not meet the GM engine oil spec, so if you are still under warrenty, I would not use it. Not sure about Royal Purple.

Curious of where you're getting this information?

AMSOIL 10W-30 does meet GM engine oil specifications and is one of the best oils available today.

AMSOIL Synthetic 10W-30 Motor Oil is recommended for use in gasoline engines and other applications requiring any of the listed worldwide specifications:

API SM/CF, SL, SJ ...

ILSAC GF-4, 3 ...

ACEA A5/B5

JASO VTW

GM 4718M, 6094M

Ford WSS-M2C205-A

Daimler Chrysler MS-6395N

VW 503.00

Within the last 6 months someone also posted an extensive test comparing the wear or lubrication property's for many of the major brands of motor oils. If someone has the link please post it, it was very informative.

By the way, I use all Royle Purple Fluids in my Z06....

Amsoil is the only oil for me. I run it in all 3 of my vettes, in my Hummer and in the Harley. I use the 7500 oil in the cars & Hummer.

Once you start comparing top-tier synthetical oils, I think the debate becomes moot. My advice: use any of the top synthetical oils (Mobile 1 certainly is a safe choice), change it regularly as recommended or appropriate to your circumstances, and quit over-thinking it.

It not only meets but it exceeds the specs. I have been running Amsoil in my 2000 and the car runs great. I was using Royal Purple in my 94 Vette but also switched it over to Amsoil. I was running Redline in my Viper but switched it over to Amsoil as well because I was so impressed with the oil.

Cody1112, if you want to find out more about different oils then read a couple of threads on this site.

I read somewhere that the molybdenum in royal purple acted as a great lubricant with a strong barrier but at the same time caused excessive wear. Anyone have any experience with excessive wear from royal purple?

This is a tricky subject, because while they technically can pass that spec quite easily, they have not submitted their oil to GM for approval, so they aren't on GM's official 4718M list:

so if I'm still under warranty, and if I switch to royal purple, the warranty shouldn't be affected? or will it?
