Default A few fine scratches!!

HI,
I have a 2002 dark green met. C-5 That i bought not long ago..now im seeing verry fine scratches in the hood. its just the clear coat and its not deep..i just dont want to rub it with the wrong stuff and make it worse..so to get it looking like glass again. what would be the best stuff out their to use by hand to get fine scratches out on the clear.you have to be in the right light or up close to see it but i dont like them on my corvette..Any help would be nice..And i would like to rub them out by hand..Whats the best stuff out their?..Thanks dbiddle

And yes it looks like the last owner seen some dust on it and tried to wipe it down with a bath room towel..its not all that bad its just im seeing it now that i own it. And its just in a few spots. But i would like it to shine like glass like the rest of the car..Thanks dbiddle.

Well to be honest you will improve it by hand but you will not fix it by hand. If you can use a buffer I would start out with Ulterfina and an Ultrafina pad by 3m. Depending on the scratches you may have to get move aggressive with a 3000 swirl mark remover by 3M and a gray 3m Pad. If that doesn't get them you may have to use an actual rubbibg compound. Remember to be patient and you may need to go over it several times. Try the least agressive first and work to more agressive and just the opposite when you polish it back.

Good Luck and you need have anymore questions post back here and email me at carterc5@att.net.

I have a dark bowling green 01 and tons of zaino brought it back from similar shape when I bought it

I do have a curiosity question though, has the car been repainted? The reason I ask is dark bowling green was a 00-01 only color. No green was offered from the factory in 02.

Try the Zaino formulated for scratches. Forget the Z number.

Buy yourself a Porter-Cable Dual Action Random Orbital buffer, you'll hear it referred to a PC DA. They run around a $100. Then order some Zaino Z-PC and Z-5 Pro. Wash and buff the finish using the PC DA and the Z-PC and polish with Z-5. You'll be amazed at the results. The PC DA is safe there are lots of instructions around on how to use them. Don't worry you won't harm the paint. Way different then a rotary buffer.

Keeping your car looking good is a lot of work and there is good info and BS out there. Here is a good place to start.

Look in the car car section here on the forum, and the opther links posted here are good too. A PC will make life easier to buff out those hairline scratches.

Machine is a different story.
