Opinion on this please
About to purchase my first Corvette for my 50th birthday, wanting to pay cash and not go over 18k. I have an offer in on this one they are thinking about for 15k, if they don't take it, with the market the way it is, do I go up or keep looking. The vehicle is in good shape with everything working. Thanks in advance

$15k would be a nice buy for that mileage.$18k will buy you a nicer/newer one for sure.By that I mean that 98 is pretty basic.Even the crappy wagons are still on it.

Make sure you do a CarFax or something similar to find out the history of the car mechanically. I believe the VIN number to the dealer could give you the history.

Offer was refused with a come back of 16k, I do like the car, and for one thing it in my area, but not in love with it, from a pure market standpoint, do I counter with 15.5 or walk away and keep looking? Love to find something newer and lower mileage for my cap of 18k, but in my area (Kansas City) that is hard to do, as I have been looking for the past 5 months

You can find something newer with similar mileage if you look hard enough.
It is not impossible to find.
I found a 01 with only 14k miles for 21. So it is not impossible to find what you want for the price you are looking for.

Seems like a great deal to me!! I would feel better about buying this vet BECAUSE it has no mods. The more mods that it has, the more likely it has been beat on in my honest opinion. Is it gonna be a daily driver? If not, How many miles are you gonna put on a weekend only car? Make a list of PRO and CONS about this car. The list should tell you everything that you need to know.

What ever happens do not make the mistake of a lot of first time Vette buyers which is falling into love with the car you are considering before you buy it. There is a reason why they say love is blind. Once you start living with it the blindness soon disappears.
As for the car the add is very skimpy and seems aimed at the non-Vette person. Price not only depends on the miles and condition but what options are on the car. There is no mention whether the car has the following options: floor mats, active handling, sport seats, power passenger seat, privacy curtain and cargo net, Z51 suspension, G92 axle (3:15). Some of these were very low cost options but make the car more enjoyable and a selection of some of them can increase the value of the car.
What type of tires are on the car and how many miles are on them? Is the original owners manual included and does it have both keyfobs? Actually the 98s came with 3 keys. Two of them on fobs and a third key without a VATS pellet that was in a plastic credit card sized sleeve that you could keep in your wallet to be available if the other keys were locked in the car.

I agree!!! If you have these comments maybe it's not really what you are wanting... Keep looking , you'll find the right one! If you are going to spend the money , be sure and get what you really want!
