could somebody sit in their car, and turn the key to the "on" position... (but don't start the car) and tell me if you hear any noises coming from behind the center of the dash? i noticed some noises yesterday in my Z06 which sound like an actuator driving intermittently. i installed a CLB yesterday, and noticed the sound during the install... i'm just wondering if this is normal sound from the climate control or something. thanks for any help...

I hear two "actuator" type noises when I turn the key to the first position. One is in the center of the dash right above the ignition switch. The other is right behind the Corvette logo in the passenger side of the dash. When I turn the key off and pull the key I hear the same sound from behind the Corvette logo again...about a second after pulling the key. No repeat noise from the center. I do have a CLB as well.

The column lock motor makes a pretty loud noise and its right in the column. Doubt you are hearing that anymore once the CLB was installed. If it is the lock mechanism then your steering wheel should be locking, but doubt it is the culprit.
Besides ... the column lock only activates when the key is removed, or if the key is inserted after a removal and turned to the on position.
Do you hear any noise when the key is REMOVED?

Are you sure you are not hearing the A/C actuators resetting the vend flaps? That can often happen when the turn off state of the A/C is not what is in the memory. I have occasionally heard it on various cars. I ask because you describe it as an "actuator" noise rather than a relay type noise.

I would add that you became sensitive to the sound which you had not heard before, as you were working on the CLB and were low down to the dash area. And as they say once you hear it the first time....

FYI ... What you are hearing in that particular case is the relay in the BCM (located under passenger foot well) that is trying to activate the column lock mechanism.
